I wouldn't have been upset if he killed himself or resisted arrest and ended up dead but we still should give people due process and not extrajudicial killings.

Pretty much what you'd expect from someone who is not only still on Twitter, but financially supports Elon Musk by paying for a fake blue check.

He'll get right on that (as soon as his corporate masters tell him to)

I apologize if I wasn't clear. I did not mean to suggest that Mamdani was doing or saying anything like that.
I will admit that I haven't been following him much but from what I have seen and read he seems like a good guy, certainly better than the likes of Cuomo (not a high bar though)

To be clear, I do not believe in compromise when it comes to civil rights or individual liberties and I'm very much opposed to the (frankly repugnant) suggestion by some corporatist Democrats that the Democratic Party should throw transgender people under the bus in order to appeal to bigots.

He also ended school segregation as governor of NY.
He also appointed several black people to federal positions which was hugely controversial.
He famously invited Booker T Washington to dine at the White House, and paid a heavy political price for doing so.

Bit of a side track but I'm curious, what political opinions have I expressed, either in this conversation or otherwise, that you consider irredeemable?

Of course that progress is being systematically dismantled now and I believe that infighting on the left helped make that happen.

I argue that seeking common ground can be one way to make positive change leading to greater acceptance of more measures previously considered extreme.
For example DADT led to gays being able to serve openly which led to transgender people being able to serve openly.

To be clear, I believe the people on the far left are unquestionably better people than those on the far right because people like you want to make things better for others where those on the far right are wanting to screw over others for their own benefit.

IMHO Lincoln was a moderate (for his time) on the issue of slavery and his election directly led to the civil war. He even explicitly said that preserving the union was more important than ending slavery.
T.R. was morderate on racial issues, labor relations and American expansionism.

In states where the Democrats have political control they have done that.
In a couple weeks the minimum wage here is about to be $17.28 per hour and it's been above $15 for years.
A wealth tax is currently making it's way through the state legislature.
comment in response to

I understand that and respect that opinion but it is a pretty extreme position to take.
comment in response to

Sorry I missed the part about economic issues.
My answer to that is increasing the minimum wage becoming a major policy issue as well as programs like student loan forgiveness and advocating for higher taxes for the wealthy.

I didn't say they were far left I said they are farther left than they ever have been.
Compared to even 20 years ago they have moved quite a bit to the left on issues like LGBT+ rights, immigration reform, gun control, cannabis legalization, health care (medicare for all) and climate change.

If you think the Democratic Party is a far right (or right wing at all) party I hate to break it to you but you're on the political extremes.
The current iteration Democratic Party is the farthest left it's ever been and the farthest left _major_ party that's ever existed in this country.
comment in response to

Respectfully, that's because you hold an extremist political view.
comment in response to
post
That's the _mainstream_ view among Democrats, because unlike Republicans the Dems haven't allowed themselves to be dominated by political extremists.
The downside of that is it allows corporatists to be successful in the Democratic party.

The other political extreme from the scenario you describe isn't diversity it's nationalizing the grocery stores and outlawing private property.
Diversity and an equitable economic system IS the middle ground. Which is why corporatists like Cuomo (or Pelosi, or Schumer) pay lip service to this.
comment in response to

Actual centrists don't believe that at all.
They believe one should seek common ground between political extremes. That's literally what a centrist is.
comment in response to
post
Because pretending to be a centrist makes you broadly popular unlike being a bought and paid for corporate shill.
comment in response to

Cuomo isn't a centrist he's a corporatist pretending to be a centrist.

Strawman harder. What we are saying is that if troops commit crimes, even if they are ordered to by their superiors, they still open themselves up to criminal liability.
Literally nobody is saying they should be prosecuted _before_ they commit a crime.

Trump knows having an absolute loyalist (regardless of competency) leading the DoD will be essential if/when he launches another coup to stay in power. He can't risk someone in that job that might possibly choose the country over him.
