Huh. I may be wrong. Kraven the Hunter might be a decent movie with some awful spots.

It is often surprisingly fun, and the cast is trying to squeeze what they can from the script. But if you're on Netflix, I do recommend BODIES. Don't watch the preview, watch the 1st episode completely cold.

Looking forward to all 6 hours of AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY at this rate. Plus the addition hour of post-credits scenes.

A true soldier in the battle for hearts and minds.

Maybe looking to entertainment to process current events is not the best idea, with its bias toward drama and nigh-impossible stakes. I don't know.

But both Palpatine and the Death Star could be destroyed (for a while, at least) through violence. It just needed luck, allies, firepower, and winning over hearts & minds. Above all, it needed desperation. Every victory was a potential suicide mission. Is THAT our lesson from Star Wars too?

The Jedi/Sith lore seems a cautionary counterpoint: If you strike Palpatine down in anger, you literally become him. He takes over your body. But that seems more a question of whether you were goaded to violence on his terms. He was a trap for Luke, as the Death Star was a trap for the fleet.

If there is a consistent thread in Star Wars, from the original movies through Andor, it's that violence will win out, but you need to build a strong, cunning, and diverse alliance--with a lot of luck and ruthlessness--to win against an institutionally entrenched force.

Of course, even the fleet's attack on the Death Star was a calculated provocation of the rebellion to violence, to finish them off in one fell swoop. Admiral Ackbar realized this. The rebels won the day by allying with indigenous guerillas and turning the heart of the Emperor's top operative.

Growing up with Star Wars gave me a very specific framework for understanding the national rise of authoritarianism. But I'm never sure whether I'm mapping the right elements onto the moment. Luke threw away his lightsaber, resisting the Dark. But the fleet blew up the Death Star and everyone on it.

You cannot kill him in a way that matters.
