The 8th May has been marked as VE Day since before Trump was born. VE stands for Victory in Europe. As for the First World War, the idea that some Yank who refused to serve in the military, will command people around the world not to call it Rembrance Day is laughable. Sod off.

If you're wondering why so many right wing individuals are saying hateful things about the late Pope, the reason is simple: he told them that they should care about other people.

Actually, on reflection, I do have a joke about Narcissus.

The world is finding out what happens when the dog catches the car.

The stages in a Donald Trump deal: 1. Lie about something being a problem 2. Do something to "fix" it, which causes an actual problem 3. Say you won't reverse what you've done 4. Reverse what you've done 5. Say "Art of the deal"

@p-no-nwa.bsky.social This “might” cheer you up. Larry the cat’s thoughts: Imagine you make wine in California. The prices of all imported wine is about to go up significantly because of the tariffs? What do you do to your prices? You increase them, just by less

Yes, Trump's tariffs will hurt US consumers in the short term, but, you should focus on the long term, where it will also hurt them.

Hmm...

Big Pharma? No. Big Parma? YES.

Is there anything more smug than a person with their firewood for the next two winters all stacked and covered?

Just some balance here: • The *mainland* yellow-eyed penguin is declining. • YEPs are a subantarctic species and mostly breed there. • The current mainland population only arrived a few hundred years, and will probably disappear again as oceans warm. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow-...

@beefaerie.bsky.social Happy birthday Deborah, I hope the coming year is an improvement on the last.

Arrived at the “alpine desert” of Cromwell. This used to be a very dry sandy lucerne paddock.

Empty roads of the South Island Xmas Eve on the way to Omarama.

Love (loved) his work.

It is always a good day when you learn some thing new. I had always presumed that the small worker bumble bees you saw in spring were young. And so they are because they are the first brood raised by the Queen all by herself with limited food sources hence the small size and they remain that size.

TIME magazine’s ‘Person of the Year.’

The things you see. Best use of an old uk oil dripping car.

The moa (mower) came in yesterday and these appeared overnight.

Meanwhile while weeding a corner (that I step over daily) I upset a nest of paper wasps, one which stung me as I observed them trying to see where the nest entrance was. Big mistake for them. Carbaryl is very effective. No movement now.

Garden starting to be productive, beans and cucumbers running, courgettes flowering, and potatoes ( Jersey Bennies & Pink Fir) looking very good.

The broad beans didn’t enjoy the cold morning but as always they bounced back.

I’m driving one of my cousins crazy by referring to the trump ticket as ‘Felon/Fake 2024’

Who knew New Zealand briefly had a double ballot system similar to the French one. Certainly not me and I studied NZ constitution and universal suffrage. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_...
