An old journalistic rule of thumb on crowd size used to be to split the difference between the official estimate and that of the organizers. This method would make it around 9 million, working from an average between Morris's low and high numbers.

Cosy occult with a high body count? I would read it.

Having a cat is all about compromise, meaning you will have to compromise but they will simply not be doing that.

Following you just for that.

I have a feral who never, ever purrs. I hear it's kind of a thing with them? Like trying not to make noise that could draw unwanted attention. Nor is she exactly sweet: she bites and scratches me and the other cat. We have scars. But over the 6 or 7 years I've had her, things have slowly improved.

Site of a hospital whose chapel remains today; before that a prison and earlier still a leprosarium. I lived nearby many years ago when the closed hospital was still there.

I ended up scoring 10/10 on the quiz and having to look up Spiders Georg so thanks for that.

I live just down the street and love the fact that my 15-minute neighborhood includes a cinema five minutes' walk away. Plus the MK2s in the 19th and two others at place de Clichy, all c. 20 minutes by metro. Paradise!

I'd like to repost this and share both the artist name and the meme maker. Were you the latter?

I quit smoking 40-some years ago but my favorite was the smell of a smoke being lit by a car lighter. Actually, I've also not had a car for 40-some years, hmmm...

C'était charmant, même ensorcelant, mais je n'arrivais pas à entendre qui avait fait l'arrangement. Et il n'était pas dédié à quelqu'un ? Aux victimes de la guerre ? Une victime de guerre en particulier ?

Yes, in Suresnes, mostly WWI graves. I've taken a couple of American tour groups there. It's a gorgeous site, eh?

I'm an American long resident in France and covered by its great healthcare system. In 2022, with generics entering the market early, France dropped the Revlimid price by 40% to c. 55€ a pill for the highest dose. Interesting that so few people wanted to comment for your piece! Best of luck to you.

Yes, we found it very impressive, as was the "Standing With Giants" installation of silhouettes, which was just being completed at the time. I also appreciated the frequent placement of benches on the looooooong walk from the car park.

We were based in the village of Crépon, liberated by the Green Howards on 6 June. Only near the end of our stay did we discover Crépon's own war memorial and the two RAF graves in the churchyard. All the Commonwealth graves were so well kept; the US ones looked quite bare in comparison.

It feels very close this year after spending a week with a friend last month exploring the beaches, battlefields, museums and many, many cemeteries in Calvados. But it also feels especially pertinent given the way the world is going.

The WashPost wrote this week about vector design (e.g. on McQuiston's The Pairing, Janovsky's Never Been Kissed) taking over romance covers. But yours of recent years have avoided that look. They're just ... classier. I love this one.

It was an American "monuments man", John Skilton, who ensured that the Tiepolos can still be seen: After firebombing damage exceeding that of Dresden, he oversaw repairs to the roof to prevent further damage to the ceilings. When I was there 40 years ago, Würzburgers still revered his name.
