First @davisallen.bsky.social exposed how the oil industry promoted recycling knowing full well it wouldn't address plastic waste Now it is "advanced recycling,” the same problem dressed up as a new "solution" -- check out his report! climateintegrity.org/projects/adv...

AI overviews are ~very~ ~bad~ for legit and non-predatory information sources. AI overviews are often wrong or simplistic, but Google displays them prominently and distracts people from clicking through on websites with more reliable answers, websites that need the traffic to survive.

Center for Public Integrity is shutting down: Wesley Lowery resigned as board chair. The nonprofit newsroom, founded in 1987, is in talks to turn over its archives to a watchdog group. www.cjr.org/news/center-...

Amazing things are possible if 1) you can afford enough lawyers to neutralize any case against you, 2) you can pick the court, and 3) you are confident you'd get a full pardon if you step in it.

if you think today's newspaper columns can be unhinged, the 1970s had no rules

Update on this: nearly 200 advocacy groups (including @climateintegrity.bsky.social) are now calling on Dems in Congress to oppose a liability waiver for the fossil fuel industry www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

A lesson I learned reporting on Trump's rollbacks of environmental law — don't frame these as political fights — environmentalists vs Trump; focus on the real-world impacts.

a bunch of outlets totally wiped out their environmental and climate desks in 2011 after cap-and-trade legislation failed. this cycle of layoffs is more existential — the news business is failing — but it's also the same short-sightedness and cowering to power.

The CRA is a kind of congressional loophole to stop an agency from ever issuing a substantially similar regulation again, requiring a simple majority vote. So far, enviro regs an unsurprising target - including methane, HFCs and energy efficiency. helpful tracker here ->

The NYU climate economics journalism fellowship was a great experience & I met journalists from around the world — applications are open for their next cycle! www.stern.nyu.edu/experience-s...

Some good news for climate journalism as MacArthur rolls out $6 million in grants (with Society of Environmental Journalists on the list!). It's exciting to see how many of these outlets prioritize accountability journalism. www.macfound.org/press/press-...

This is frightening www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

google docs is incapable of giving me consistent formatting for a memo but absolutely insists on replacing any critical thinking

Escaped from DC for the inauguration, ended up stuck in the south in a blizzard. I may not being coming back.

biased but this is a good list (plus I'd rather not see the energy bro twitter clique recreated over here)

I'm building a starter pack of incredible women journalists covering the critical stories of #climate, #energy, #environmentaljustice, and fossil fuels. Click "follow all" and receive this vital reporting. go.bsky.app/EKJ27CU

Folks still clinging to Twitter - doesn't matter how big your following is if you're shouting in a void. No one was seeing my posts-- media, climate, and citing my sources were triple strikes for the Musk algorithm Here have about half the followers I did on Twitter but like 50x the engagement

Oil billionaires are throwing a swanky party to celebrate Trump's inauguration, according to an invitation sent to Doug Burgum by billionaire fracking magnate Harold Hamm. Hamm promises "a remarkable experience to commemorate this momentous occasion." www.nytimes.com/2025/01/13/c...

Public transit propaganda I can get behind metrorewind.com (attn DC metro riders)

My stories at Vox continue to get a fair amount of traffic, especially on air pollution and the air quality index. Noticed that at some point in the last two weeks Vox significantly changed my bio, hacking off all my experience -- courtesy of Wayback Machine

SCOTUS declined to take up Honolulu's climate deception lawsuit against major oil companies. Oil companies made the appeal to SCOTUS in hopes it would knock down the case. This means the case proceed under state law in Hawaii and can move on to discovery!

Keren is a triple threat, literally. A talented and versatile journalist, a physician, and kind human). You would be lucky to work with her.

Really disappointed that Vox made the shortsighted decision (again) to lay off more talented journalists

so January 3 is now the official kickoff of "Earth Month" pitches. and annual reminder that I regret this headline, which only encouraged them

any (women) keep their DMs open here? Because most of mine have been men or bots sliding in with "hello"
