As an aim player can confirm this is true

I have seriously thought about asking to do coney’s “do smashers know the fgc” game but with Splatoon/major esports at Riptide

I think that what the scene could really use is a spokesperson for the ESPORT who is not Chara. He has too many other avenues to worry about to be able to promote the comp scene as much as he maybe could in a vacuum. We need a Bren and Sideshow/TenZ/Super/Sajam. #compsplatoon

Because its perception in the zeitgeist is not that of a competitive game. I think that recent content surges from all levels of players is a great first step.

I know personally that on my aim training video I got a comment saying "nice to see people from comp post good content." And I was like wow! I did not expect my video to be seen by anyone who wasn't a comp player. I think splatoon's media scene has never been centered around its competitive aspects-

As much as I despise aoe, crashing out in sendou chat is a level I would not stoop to

(Not flaming Chara's video name, it's just that having to put like "splatoon 3 montage" at the end of every title just ruins the vibes)

A player whose main role (outside of actually playing the game) is to keep the team mental/vibes up. Common in tac shooters

Like every team needs a Zellsis hype man and normally that’s me but you have no IDEA how well I would play with a second one

Naut, you kind of have to be a god to make up for having 0 tools but if you are good it is better than people rate it

Anything that is very aimy, so probably a charger, and I would agree that Squiff would be likely because it is hitting shots against people actively fighting it.
Stamper is also like the Splatoon equivalent of genji so I would probably say that

VCT stage 1 has been so exciting to watch because you saw teams develop from Kickoff and so many new storylines emerged over the season. Obv pickup culture prevents this exact thing, but there would be a similar effect.

And everything gets more hype when a major is on the horizon. Weeklies become litmus tests for how teams/players will do. Commentators can talk about major prospects. The scene can speculate who will win. NONE of this happens unless players know is coming up.

(Not that you were involved with SAC). Just anecdotally, the six days was by far not enough time for DPS only to participate.

And to some extent the LCS effect should happen for most big tournaments with qualifiers, and it was stronger for LCS because there was a longer time span with more games leading up to the finals. SAC S10 was announced SIX DAYS before qualifier one. Like dawg

Ofc yeah, LAN champs was a special case. My ideal world would be that big tournaments run at the same time every year, at which point you wouldn’t need the announcements because the schedule would already be well known. But alas more publicity will do until we can get there

I think for big projects like LAN champs/superjump/luti the storyline is who is playing and how they have been doing up until then (esp for stuff with qualifiers). I also wish teams/pickups would announce what they are playing in, but they don’t have a reason to without big events

This is part of why LAN championship was so hype: by the time the finals had rolled around, the excitement had been building for months. If they had announced LAN champs after the last lan it would not have been nearly as exciting. PLEASE just give advance notice
