If libraries charged for books they’d be able to have more books! Oh wait

In many cases, yes! But in other cases not so much. I agree with your theory but you’re treating it as universally factual, then the numbers tell a much more interesting story.

…rather than treating affordability and service as competing funds, we should view transit as a whole as competing with other budget items like corporate tax cuts, highways, etc. Why should we pick and chose between the things that increase ridership when there’s wasteful spending taking from us?

Do you have data to support these claims? I ran a campaign to bring 40,000 students free public transit. After they were given their transit passes, they rode up to *40% more transit*. I’m a huge proponent for better service, but your thinking here is limited in a way that’s detrimental to transit…

I don’t know how else to explain this but if people can’t afford the bus then they’re not going to ride the bus

Advocates, consultants, and agencies alike would all benefit from realizing that efforts to pull between affordability and service are self-destructive. Attacking affordable transit not only ignores a vital funding source (low-income fares), but distracts from the real issue with how the gov budgets

Republican/capitalist thinking has tainted the way we view public transit’s role and capacities. The conversation is “funding affordability vs frequency”, when reality is “funding holistic, quality public transit vs. police, corporate tax cuts, foreign wars, etc”. 3/4

Skyrocketing fares have made it cheaper for many to drive than take the bus. You can make transit as frequent as you want, and you should! But if it’s not accessible to the vast majority of people — aka public — what’s the point? 2/3

Is the fuck you because you found out through Liza minelli outlives? In any case what a massive loss :(

These are the folks most likely to save PEPFAR. Please call them TODAY and tell them to vote NO on codifying cuts to PEPFAR and other critical, life-saving aid. act.pih.org/global-healt...

Cars separate a person from their humanity, even to a point of violence. My motivation to keep fighting for safety is stronger than ever though! Appreciate you checking in

Dude, stop implying that I’m somehow responsible if this woman does anything to anyone. That is such a victim-blaming, illogical, and messed up conclusion to come to. Either fight the actual problem with the rest of us, or get out of the way

Great, we should have a system where you don’t need to risk subjecting someone to state violence for safety. Why would I want to put more violence into the world when I’ve just been subjected to it?

Yeah, it’s not on me. She started swearing at us before I said anything. Never flipped her off or got close to her car or anything like that. Of course, I could’ve been a lot more outwardly angry and her actions wouldn’t have been justified. But really goes to show that cyclist victim blaming is bs.

I’m really shaken up, couldn’t focus and frankly just wanted to go home for the rest of the ride. But I’m incredibly lucky compared to the millions of people who will be killed by cars this year.

Needless to say, she drove away in the bike lane. I am okay albeit disappointed that my trust in my safety is broken once more. Cyclists shouldn’t have to fear assault or worse because drivers feel a sense of entitlement to the 3 feet of road we (occasionally) get.
