"How dare you dishonour my ancestors!" yells man dishonouring his ancestors.

The difficulty with a blanket ban on audio recording is that it would preclude a whistleblower collecting evidence or, say, an employee being able to show abuse from their boss. Bans should focus on the purpose, and perhaps content, of the recording.

But then what about all the meetings that could have been emails, and were?! Do we have to go back to having them?! 😮

I kind of agree. But then I also think back to my grandmother's advice to "leave well enough alone" and think that's also a valid response to much of the legislation that gets vomited out of the "we have to do something, this is something, let's do that" mindset of politicians.

Read a review of his predecessor's self-penned hagiography that said it's clear she was primarily driven by wanting people who didn't like her, to like her. He seems the same. Meanwhile the people who do like them, and have their hopes pinned on them, are taken for granted (or turn to Winston).

Cause a meltdown in what's left of their brains by demanding they prove that Zelda was *not* trans. Although that may cause a flood of incel fantasy art 🤢

Seems strange to waste curry before consigning them to the bin 🤔😉

A senior Nat Minister? Indubitably. The person in the street? Probably not, & it's not their fault. Try asking people if they know what event the "marae" road sign evokes. We are not taught much of our recent history (& many don't want to know) & thus we lack the ability to contextualise.

My flabber is constantly gasted at the way everyone (not getting at u particularly) casually agrees the RBNZ & govt of the day willfully destroyed the economy & these people are walking round running unis & raking it in from lectures & doing whatever the hell Orr is doing rather than sitting in jail

Thank you for this. My (seemingly far too) intelligent TV has been suggesting the series for weeks and I've been ignoring it, thinking "I've already seen it, foolish tech." I shall apologise by way of a small offering of old capacitors I've been keeping "just in case."

So the tax forgone from landlords ($2.9b) could have given everyone a cheaper, more secure fuel supply? I'd have thought that'd do more to get us "back in track" 🙄 Anyway, Jones supposedly did a deal for a biorefinery. Looks like big talk, no action. What a shock. www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

If they really want something to boast about, they'll get on with the endless "discussions" about reopening Marsden Point in some form, and just do it. May only be a small buffer against price fluctuations, but would help with fuel security. 130m l/w is very vulnerable to a precarious supply chain!

Dare I point out that the Australian and Canadian alternatives actually had, you know, policies and stuff? Nothing dramatic like wealth redistribution of course. Heaven forfend the left should suggest such a thing. But some actual stuff that wasn't "what they said, but slightly less shit".

That last sentence needs a LOT of proving because there's so many other contenders! 😂 Let's not forget Gina, for a start. Then there's Morrison (let's not *ever* forget him), Hillsong in general, Dutton's $30 mill in property deals he "forgot" to declare... someone hand me another ream of paper...

"These stormtroopers. I cannot discern their genitals beneath those smooth body armour panels. How do we know they're using the right toilets?"
"Emperor, a rebel fleet approaches!"
"They could be in the WRONG TOILET!"
Death Star explodes
"Ha! Now the woke have NO toilets! I am a master strategist!"

Well, that's a promotion. I imagined one of those trash droids that keeps scurrying around the corridors as the people in charge walk along talking about their evil plans, only getting noticed when it contrives to get under someone's feet, after which it gets booted out of the way.

I am grateful to the alt text for telling me that's an apple. It looked like she was feeding him an egg with the shell still on. I'll accept a nude Pope, but we've all seen what happens (in Australia) when someone who's religiously deluded and eats raw onions with the skin on gets any power.

That's me up close. And after they say "But we went to school together / worked together / slept together* / grew up next door... etc."
I have to resort to "I'm sorry, I'm bad with names. And faces."
(* well, occasionally, I'm not a total cad)

I know it's probably bad of me, but the oxymoronic nature of "covert trans" made me giggle. Is she referencing the "shapeshifters live among us" trope? Like they're lizard people, but they morph back and forth between the sexes? Nothing else makes sense 🤷🏻♂️

First your resume has to get through AI screening, so stuff it with a lot of words like "high degree of piousness," "improved confessional efficiency by 120% by limiting the number of sins" & the all-important "increased collection plate returns by 256% by having images of hell printed on the rim."

OTOH... when I'm asked to do something like "write us a really meaningful mission statement" I can avoid insulting my intelligence, produce the kind of saccharine bullshit they love, and bill for the 3 or 4 hours it took me. Honest. *realises clients may see this & reaches for the delete button*

*sigh* Right there in the article it says he'd worked for elderly people, inc the victim, for 10 murder-free years. But that age had badly affected his physical health. Could it be that simple dementia-known to lead to violent outbursts-is the issue? But that wouldn't make for another moral panic 🙄

That sounds like a delicious alternative. A bit like a cheesecake base. But I can't go past flaky pastry. I once consumed a pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner during a particularly busy day in radio. Each time I ordered I'd forgotten what I had before. I was thereafter known as "Mr 3 Pies" 😬

And miss that feeling of buttery flaky pastry crumbling in your mouth and providing both a richness (if there's butter in it and not -gak- margarine) and texture?! Though making pastry is a pain. I need to train the cat to do that kneading thing they do, on pastry.

Stop taunting the peasantry with your high falutin' pies 😛 That potato top is incredibly good, even when thawed. Surely you've had a Maketu pie from the supermarket? You can't tell me that even Gordon Ramsey couldn't find fault with one of those. Ambrosia in pastry form.

Mum made a shortcrust apple pie, covered in sugar. I'd have called it a flan, but to her everything in a pie dish was a pie. The ice cream helped with the texture and the crunchiness contrasted with the filling. But I did much prefer her flaky pastry version.

Emergencies?! They're a staple in my freezer! One's on the menu tonight. These are from a local bakery, not the supermarket - though the more expensive ones from there aren't bad. (And no, I don't eat an entire family pie in one sitting, in case you were wondering 😛 They're just cheaper that way.)

It was a prank caller's favourite tool. Hours of fun to be had in a phone box without mum and dad asking why you were on the home phone for hours with bursts of laughter every few minutes. Yes the jokes were lame - "is your fridge running?" - but that added to the victim's anger 😁 Not that I, etc.
