Essentially, Trump is ignoring what the US is good at (services), and doubling down on what it is bad at (cheap manufacturing). Isn’t there some general principle that you should play to your strengths?

Chess player here. There are very few scenarios in which looking at a chessboard helps one to find a bottom.

Also, while these are the largest drops by index value, they are definitely not by percentage. Pretty sure there was a big one in 1987, and one in 2008. Oh maybe 1929? Still, it is a knack that he has.

Agreed! We should only buy planes from countries we have strong reason to believe are our allies. Right now that is unclear with regard to the US.

I think the US has provided about 70% of the aid to Ukraine, with the EU and UK supplying most of the remainder. This is obviously going to have to change dramatically to continue resisting Putin without US support.

Fair point. Though in fact Ukraine is already using British Storm Shadow missiles and German Leopard tanks supplied via various European countries plus Canada. They preferred them over the American Abrams, because they require less training, I believe.

Philip Roth’s book “The Plot Against America” explores an alternative history of American fascism. It is proving prescient in many ways.

That’s why German fascism was less dangerous than American fascism. These are uncharted waters indeed.

A suggestion to close Canadian airspace to US airlines also makes some sense to me.
