Love it. Especially the cherubs on his shoulders, looking down at him disapprovingly.

What’s changed in the past 25 years is the media. Instead of a few trusted networks that stuck to news we have fragmented info from boutique sources, each with an agenda. People either get alternative facts or none at all. Most have no clue what’s happening to science.

Amazing to see how far you have come. It’s great to see that grass roots politics and free speech can still have an impact in these crazy times. Keep up the fight!

You can assume that for anything she says.

Same logic as reducing testing for COVID-19 means fewer cases! That’s a good thing, right? Don’t look up! (Watch the 2021 movie of the same name, if you don’t get the reference)

Sounds like an excellent time to cut their funding.

Must be inspiring

I’m surprised about Al Gore. He’s one of my political heroes. I guess that doesn’t always coincide with being a compelling speaker.

Equally dangerous is the resurgence of the concept of “common sense “. Who needs science when we can just trust gut feelings about what is true and what isn’t? And all the more validating if a whole group of people have the same gut feeling.

Great song. Sent shivers up my spine.

One of the most insightful things I’ve heard you say.

I even got one with the moon in the center, but I had to shift the approach angle and move so close that the moon looked tiny relative to the arch.

Finally got to see, in person, the eye that I’ve been using on intro slide for seminars. Truly remarkable.

I was there last week, after ARVO.

We can overcome the ignorance and injustice of these times if we have half the courage that Ben had. Thanks for speaking out.

For the record, I've been trying to interview Bhattacharya since the moment (and before!) he was sworn in. I've followed up repeatedly. I offered to speak specifically about the new policy. I've written 20 stories on NIH since the inauguration. Why is Bhattacharya scared to speak to @nature.com?

Congress enacted all sorts of legislation after Nixon resigned to decrease authority of the executive (eg Ethics in Government Act) and increase transparency(eg Freedom of Information Act). Amendment or not, stricter laws like these couldn’t come quickly enough given the current disaster.

I feel for you. It’s starts to become quite a cocophany, the older you get. Then someday, you get to join the choir.

He meant “literarially”, i.e. from literature, specifically the fictional kind.

Move to Mississippi and run for Senate! I bet you would get a lot of votes, even without campaigning. With campaigning, you’d be unstoppable!

Good idea. I’m not buying any more uranium from Russia.

BTW the best music was on the train, between shows.

As for Woodstock2 + nightscience, I wish I could attend! It sounds wonderfully stimulating and subversive! How great it would be to escape, for a little while, the nightmare that’s taking hold of my once great nation. But just too far and not enough time. Have fun and be an example to the world!

Here’s a poster for the shows.

It’s been done! Not for science, but music. In 1970 some promoters wanted to produce a Canadian version of Woodstock. instead of one venue they chartered a train and played across Canada, until they ran out of money. The journey was memorized in The Festival Express. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festiva...

I agree. No peas. I’ve never been a pea man.

I’m so sorry for the ordeal you and family are being subjected to by this horrible regime. It’s shameful and cruel and against everything our nation is supposed to be about. I’ve enjoyed your knowledge, intelligence and insights about many things. Keep up the good fight.

Even then, they got away with it. Nobody went to jail for ecocide or reckless endangerment of human life. But the environmental damage could have been much worse, defying initial fears. We dodged a bullet, but next time we might not be as lucky and these clowns increase the risk every day.

You left out the part about welcoming immigrants, who truly made this country great. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...”
