this to me is also a statement about who these people view as peers worth engaging with

Yeah, as someone who's watching both sites, Barro is vastly overstating his point, and the more evident outcome has been center-left "intellectuals" palling around with Richard Hanania

One problem here is that outside of the legal profession, where even a lot of diehard conservatives recognize that this is a five-alarm fire, most people in most fields (including the military) are desperate to "keep their powder dry" and wait for Trump to cross a line they keep moving.

the scientific consensus is not in favor of scientific racism. quite the opposite. the people who promote scientific racism use pseudoscience and rhetorical fudging - "we all know what the numbers REALLY say" - to win support from innumerate amateurs who are impressed with their own intelligence.

hell yeah terry abc sucks butts

Was not expecting Costas to join in any resistance, but okay...

Outlets "have to pretend that there’s always two sides to this," Costas observed. "There really isn’t two sides to much of what Donald Trump represents."

You know, I try to stay away from this kind of analysis but in this case I think that this is a clear case of the powerful seeing a center-left alliance against their candidate growing and freaking out about it.

Someone's got to tell these white leftists to clean up their protest optics

So here's something important about MAGA that we don't talk about enough

i definitely feel safer with this person in charge of coordinating our intelligence agencies

[email protected] I’m told you’re not planning on showing up tomorrow for NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya’s hearing tomorrow after NIH researchers published this public declaration abt gutting NIH? Is that true? arstechnica.com/health/2025/...

Nicolle Wallace: "Right now, there's only one political party in America that's clearly in favor of America remaining a democracy and it is not my old party." More from her interview with @status.news: www.status.news/p/nicolle-wa...

This was always clearly the objective and many in the media also insisted on treating anyone who said so clearly like they were some kind of lunatic bsky.app/profile/carn...

Want to fight back? Run for office. runforwhat.net

I understand why people think this but it is simply NOT HOW IT WORKS. Most public opinion is not people reacting organically to events in an unmediated way, but reacting to what they perceive the consensus on what public opinion SHOULD be.

The extent to which corporate implosions are because of stupid financial dicktricks for massive capital raises like acquisitions, instead of actually failing, is undersold. I'm a regulated market capitalist but some of these people should be hung at the revolution.

What a quote.

always struck by how everyone who screams “we’re full” citing the strain on services is also viciously opposed to the safety net

Bluesky uses AI to help with moderation. Bluesky devs use LLMs to help accelerate development. Get off of Bluesky. I don't believe you actually have this hardline of a stance against AI if you don't.

Right now, Dems are hiding in their offices, scrolling their phones fearfully, wondering "how are voters going to feel about the National Guard being deployed?" The right, meanwhile, is vigorously *attempting to shape* how voters feel about it, filling every medium with coordinated propaganda.

Independent journalism is when you can write what Terry Moran wrote without getting in trouble. Corporate journalism is when you can’t. It’s why many left the latter for the former. I understand the rationale behind corp journalism rules, I’m just glad they don’t apply to me

I'm wildly exhausted with how many people actively covered for these sociopaths. Aquiescence to power and status quo led people to say patently illogical statements that somehow Bobby wouldn't act exactly as he had for years.

see, the thing *i’m* genuinely worried about is that RFK will effectively ban vaccines

President Trump is actively threatening the foundations of our democracy by calling for the arrest of a sitting governor simply because he disagrees with him.

this is just a masterclass in why you shouldn’t believe news outlets reporting on police violence. just literally ignoring the most clear video evidence you could ask for. the only thing missing is the guy yelling “shooting specifically that woman now.”

They figured out after 2020 that there's actually no real need for there to be riots for "omg there are riots!" to be a widely adopted reality.

Remember how an ABC reporter was just fired for speculating about the psychology of Stephen Miller?

The best endorsement this place could possibly receive.

seriously, what what a piece of shit thing to do. imagine this idea forming in your brain & just following through. no impulse control. juvenile brain function. years of training telling you all your peers are totally down w/ what you're about to do. what a bad organization this guy's a part of.

I think it’s a huge misconception we need a single app that grows infinitely and makes everyone happy. This is a “business” mindset. And that model has consistently failed. It’s also driven families apart. This is Threads model now and it’s a censorship machine. I’m good with the community we have.

ABC suspended reporter Terry Moran for a now-deleted tweet calling Stephen Miller a “world class hater.” They said it violates their standards. Here’s a thought…maybe your standards should allow calling out white nationalism and hate when you see it.

1 in 12 Americans live in California. 1 in 35 Americans live in LA County. LA is America

“How to stop an overflowing toilet” should not have a 30 second commercial before it on YouTube.

Grim to watch everything play out pretty much exactly how they said it would, and people still don't believe them.

Erasing history helps no one. "The numbers are staggering: in 1995, 1,400 immigrants were subject to nonjudicial removals, representing 3 percent of total deportations. By FY 2012 that number had sharply increased to 313,000 nonjudicial removals – an all-time high." www.aclu.org/news/immigra...
