True facts: I got a sticker from this shop a month or two ago and when it arrived, I liked it so much that the thought of using it made me sad, because it would eventually wear out and I wouldn't get to see it anymore. So instead, I framed it.

Me, giving a one hour training to our summer interns: Round about the 1970s, a number of factors came to a head and DB pension systems around the world collapsed. Some economists from Chicago invented a new system and piloted it in Chile. My Econ 300 teacher from college: *shrivels up and dies*

A Muslim candidate for mayor of the nation's largest city, defending the rights of a Jewish candidate for mayor, who was arrested for defending the rights of immigrants not to face detention without warrants. This is the kind of solidarity Trump and his goons fear.

First fireflies of the season!

Absolutely true. Even the shots I've seen of the gathering around the Washington Monument are less populated than I'm used to seeing.

#NoKings

Is there a word yet for the sort of pain you feel when you watch media from a more optimistic time and reflect on the media landscape that produced it? Because I saw a play tonight that I can only describe as Obama-era in the most Hamilton way possible.

Wait, the stupid parade isn't even going the full length of the mall? In over an hour? And it's going to have mules? ...heh, okay, that is not going to satisfy his envy of North Korea's coordinated displays. 51st.news/dc-military-...

Nearly three hours later, I am still too keyed up from DMing a game to go to sleep. How do people do this on a regular basis?

Not taking anything away from Senator Padilla because he was treated atrociously But I JUST want to remind everyone that the Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, a Black woman, was just indicted for just asking questions at an ICE detention center in her state Keep that same energy of support for her

Do they think they'll be greeted as liberators?

Truth emerging from her well is no longer enough, we need...

Hm. I guess I should watch Spaceballs at some point?

Good!

This is absolutely true. We used to say, in the writing group I was a member of twenty five years ago, "Good enough isn't good enough." Or the mantra I developed when I was trying to sell my first novel: (1/2)

Every time one of my colleagues uses "action" as a verb, I die a little inside.

🏳️‍⚧️🌈✨ All my Trans Pride critters~

To mark "Trump will declare a national emergency for mass deportations" day: here is the initial spreadsheet of our crowd-sourced *local* immigration advocacy/support organizations. Please share widely, put to good use, and keep letting me know about more organizations folks can connect with.

Rereading Murderbot novellas and eating soup dumplings may just be an ideal afternoon.

The king plays croquet and eats grand meals while the peasants starve and a plague tears through the land. The Count plots against him and rallies loyalists to his side! They have waylaid the royal tax collectors and claim to hold the funds in trust, but are clearly hoping to overthrow the throne.

Geologists! "They're in serious peril!" www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKr3...

Imagine seeing 10s of thousands of people picketing Tesla for MONTHS and thinking... "we should def court the white supremacist Nazi that those people are protesting."

I've never actually been to Pride, but there's a literal painting on my wall of a friend and I at that fountain. It's not just the center of the neighborhood, it holds important cultural status for generations of queer folk in and around DC. Closing it for Pride would be deliberately hostile.

Thread, up and down. This is what I meant the other day about how the term "AI" muddies conversations. There are ethical uses of machine learning and other technologies that get called "AI." In counter-abuse, machine classification is an essential tool.

Finished another model kit. This one lights up! I am pretty delighted with it.

If being a loved one to someone means they treat you worse not better Means you are required to survive them not feel safe with them And harm is about you aren’t making them feel you are worth kindness They did not do the best they could , they did the best they thought you deserved

I haven't seen this come up on here before, so hey, did anyone need another data point of evidence pointing out that discrimination against trans people is the point of the wedge to wider LGBTQ+ discrimination? Because here's a court using the "biological binary" to strike workplace protections.
