Thank you! Ammonites are so fun to wrap!

It really is a true waste and infinitely frustrating, but it is not everyone at all. (Sorry to be a bummer, truly do believe in people, I swear✨️)

Back to the point (sore subject, pardon) the average stranger I've met in rural areas has been cool, and I do believe most people don't want to hate. That Puritan shit has been something that I've had to fight, and I've had its hateful nature denied a lot by a lot of relatives, so it struck a chord.

That tracks. Our area was very churchy and being seen as weird and embarrassing our parents in front of church people (the rest of the town, literally everyone) was the thing we always were punished for. I remember a lot of hiding, city clothes and home clothes.

(Sorry, that was muddled as I'm still processing it, and I think I agree with you especially since I've gotten out, just maybe envious of your rural experience that wasn't colored by Kid Rock.)

It's almost like in the North there's this idea that we're more civilized because we "outlawed slavery," but I feel like there's a real backlash, maybe fueled by this cultural narrative that you get to be an asshole if you have a big lawn and a big truck. I think middle-class Trumpism is to blame.

My teens were spent rescuing my friends from their parents after a photo showed up on MySpace of them dancing too close to a guy at Prom/Homecoming, or caught in too pink of a shirt in rural Michigan. So many got literally beat up by their dads or grounded from acting in plays due to homophobia.

Hope you get some time to freshen up soon! ✨️

I work at a ren fair and have realized that if you add in one or two new jokes to your routien every two months you'll stop yourself from going crazy, but over time people who have never seen you before will think you're incredibly clever. That's working a regular comedy job in my experience.

*Palestine. I am still in an intense state of mind. I won't ever look at the world the same way again.

I have some technical quibbles and might redo it or explore these concepts further, but I was in a *state* when I did this and at least wanted to try no matter the outcome. It's the skill I have.

Someone brought me a piece of glass made with the ashes of a loved one early in my career to make a necklace. It's an honor to be trusted with something so precious, and I take the responsibility seriously.

Not to be a parasocial creep, but I think I started running last summer partially because I saw a tweet of yours that said something like you recommend cardio to people with PTSD. Calmed my brain down quite a bit, so thanks. It's a pleasure to exist on the same timeline as you.

Turning 37 in 2 wks. I know so much more about how to strengthen to avoid injury now and with a bit of effort feel like a tank generally. I never ran in my 20s, but developed a bit of a habit last summer. Finding myself getting antsy and breaking into a run for fun like I'm a kid again, it's great.

This makes me so sad! I was working at a hostel last time I was in Eugene 10 yrs ago, and CAHOOTS made me feel safer, even though I never had to use it (turns out you can just talk to most people). I went to the library for free writing time. The signs that this was coming were there then, though.

These were my first dive back in in '23. (I suppose I played with pencils when I was 14-15, but I feel like my Deviantart days don't count.)

Tarp-craft is an art that I relish. I almost hated getting a partner and realizing that I'd never set up my house alone again. (Now I appreciate another head in the game, but I sometimes have to control my ego about it because I am objectively the best at staying dry in sparse conditions, js.)

When I was living in OR, there was a pancake breakfast Sunday with a bluegrass jam afternoon at a community center. I am lucky enough to live in spaces with established events like this, but I hope everyone reading this gets to experience the wholesome love of a shared meal in the neighborhood.

...the minimum age to run is 35, so isn't any woman who runs going to be "middle-aged?" I hate this.

I have been told by teachers, friends, lots of people: "why try and make *everything*? Can't you just buy it?" My moment may be here at last.

I read somewhere that a lot of American comic artists use a crow quil, meaning the metal version (I have several of those), but just in case, I've been collecting crow feathers and have learned how to cut them to make them into pens.

I mostly went for Oak Gall ink. Oak galls (tannins), water, iron (to make it black), and gum arabic (thickener). The main problem is the gum arabic. Corn starch is too grainy, though I would try it in a pinch.

There might be nothing sadder than the vitriol that some people sling towards people doing cool and fun things. (Things a lot of people do with their grandma, like ffs, try something. Go for a drive, maybe, which kills more people than botulism in home-canned goods.)

In summer 2020 I was between houses and got incredibly sick from anxiety until I downloaded a small empire builder on my phone and dissociated into it until I felt better. Gaming can unlock some repetative thoughts, I've found. Just got a Switch, so planning for Skyrim next crisis.

I want to share my love of analog with everyone. Write down all your favorite things, don't let them live online where they can be snatched away at any moment due to the whims of some billionaire.

Noted! Always a mistake to think that any living thing acts the same as another because they look alike. (I should know better.)

That part was fun to listen to, despite the circumstances.
