Oh no R.E.M.'s "Fables of the Reconstruction" is now FORTY YEARS OLD!?!?!?! Really starting to feel older than dirt over here.

Good piece, this.

Great post. Lots of food for thought for any game with languages in its setting.

Damn, I love a good nap.

A heartening read.

Tech and fossil fuel oligarchs threaten our society. The AI scam steals our jobs and threatens our climate, water, and energy. We need to fight back. How? Reject AI, embrace Nature. We need to find more satisfaction in the natural world and reject the greed of the oligarchs. More to come tomorrow.

Just woke from a dream where Wayne Ronstad and I were tripping on pain meds at the dentist and Wayne was trying to chat up an attractive young dental assistant with tales of the Black Donnellys.

Y'all know this account is like 50% RPGs/50% yelling about Tolkien. Time for some Tolkien hollering today. A thread of me yelling about what I like about two Tolkien illustrators: Anato Finnstark and Denis Gordeev. 🧵

I've been having some fun lately drawing all the characters from the Hobbit.

I see some folks are just discovering that the government wrote King Charles III’s speech to Parliament this week. That’s how it works, people. You didn’t think the King (or in other years the Governor General) just makes up the Throne Speech and government’s priorities themselves, did you?

Tried playing some old faves from my Atari 2600 days last night. Didn’t do too badly on Enduro. But River Raid and Pitfall were…embarrassing. I lasted 45 seconds in Pitfall. Those first goddamn alligators!!

Listening to some #80s music while working. Adam Ant's "Stand and Deliver" sounds like a Horrible Histories song.

The crew renovating the house next door—by which I mean DOUBLING ITS SIZE WHAT THE HELL—unveiled a new machine/loud noise to annoy us all day. Huzzah.

Hi folks, this is a big deal for us, and we appreciate it if the story could be spread widely. Thanks, Barry #AcademicSky

We haven't set an exact date yet but we'll be opening to submissions starting around mid-August, for about a month. The guidelines are unlikely to change much from last year's, so here they are if you'd like a head start! newedgeswordandsorcery.com/submissions/

great to see @jdhoare.bsky.social & team back with a second issue of Secret Passages. if you like old school games but not in an obnoxiously weird way then this is a great read, check it out...

You know, you never hear about cyclists or pedestrians plowing into crowds and injuring dozens. Hm. Hope all in Liverpool recover swiftly.

Agency asked me this morning whether I'd do a little unpaid work. That's the first time that's happened to me--I know it's all too common among writers. Obviously, I declined the "opportunity."

Alan Alda is the best.

My gosh, what a delight this was. Read it in a day. A story that crosses centuries in unexpected ways.

Great to see Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy in front of a packed Anfield. Champions! #LFC #YWNA

Read John Scalzi’s latest today. Yep, the moon gets replaced by cheese. Sounds ridiculous. But it works! It’s entertaining, and funny, and even genuinely touching in spots.

Actually got around to reading this. 10/10 on the quiz woo!
