I couldn't agree more: "You do have to marvel at a political class and media ecosystem that reacts more viscerally to a four-letter word than to the actual structural inequality " www.thepost.co.nz/politics/360...

Ok, again critical support to Andrea Vance for refusing to back down and highlighting exactly how hypocritical MPs are: archive.is/1yTpo

Anyone know where I can stream Strange New Worlds season 1 in NZ? TVNZ only has season 2 now and I want to rewatch. #kikorangi

This week has too many weeks in it. Soo tired

Yesterday, I immersed myself in the Standing Orders. Today, I emerge to share the knowledge that next week the Opposition, if sufficiently motivated and coordinated, has the opportunity to do the funniest thing. newsroom.co.nz/2025/05/16/h...

Had thought I was all outta tears today, but stumbled upon this... @rawiriwaititimp.bsky.social @tepaatimaori.bsky.social speaking in Parliament today at the 3rd reading of Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Ranginui Settlement Bill #NeverFinal Note the successful truncation of his whakaaro, before he's even begun...

So let me get this straight, under the Greens' alternative Budget I would have to pay a little bit more tax... and every child in my neighbourhood could go to kindy for free? *offstage muttering* AND free dental! 😲 Will no one stop these Marxist monsters??

what's wild about the Marsden Fund (NZ's primary grant for basic science) is that after a two-step review, the payline is ~10% this is a comparable success rate at NIH for the R01, the standard biomedical 'large grant' in the states....except an R01 is ~5-10 times larger than a Marsden

This is the big point, right? The tribunal has essentially *only* soft power. What NZF and ACT object to is not being overruled, but *criticised*. And their complaints should be assessed with the actual extent of the Tribunal's power in mind.

This, so much this. Tech salaries really do warp the expectation a lot, and then it's shocking how little Nurses, Teachers, are paid. It is hard work and we all know the reason the pay rates are lower is because they professions dominated by women.

this account brings me SO. MUCH. JOY.

New mug arrived

Wrote this column 2 years ago to the week, under a different government. Think it was holds up pretty well. And a different government is hiding from scrutiny in multiple different ways. www.thepost.co.nz/a/politics/3...

"A lot of survivors are telling me what's happening is like a serious crime has been committed by the govt so the govt goes into a room with the victim and tells them this is what the penalty will be and no correspondence will be entered into. "That's not justice. So we're challenging it." #nzpol

The #HīkoiForHealth doctors will compile 100s of submissions they've received into themes, then create a report outlining practical solutions based on what communities want & need = a public blueprint for change for voters to use "to hold politicians accountable" easternbayapp.co.nz/news/article...

I’m pretty disappointed by the @wikimediafoundation.org plans for AI. Rather than take a principled stand against LLM article generation, they want AI to help with research/translation and mentor new editors. Chatbot mentors aren’t the solution! meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strateg...

Here's a thing ... when you set a mandatory requirement to reduce the workforce by an arbitrary amount in the public sector, this doesn't mean the workload of those public sector employees that you've laid off doesn't still need doing. They were employed to fulfil a need, and that need will remain.
