I’ve been using Macs since the 90s and have been considering switching to Linux for this exact reason.

Yep. Even walking stuff back, that bad taste is still left behind. 🫤

Yes. Like I said, they walked it back, but I think it was only because of the uproar.

They walked back their position, but this 21st century game of wacky-a-mole is frustrating, to say the least.

So, we are adamantly disagreeing about how much we agree with each other? Perfect! 😂

Absolutely! And, I hope I don’t sound like I’m arguing with you. You’re right, of course. A scene can definitely exist simply because the writer wanted it to be there. I guess I’m just saying lots of things can justify it as “essential.” I thought it was great. I wasn’t grading it. Just enjoying it.

You’re right. I guess my line for necessary/unnecessary is pretty loose. I think, if we are taking about the specific scene I’m thinking of, it showed a lot about the character. Maybe it wasn’t necessary for the PLOT but it was needed for the character and I see that as enough. Setting tone, etc

I think you hit it. “Hot and humorous and endearing” is exactly right and exactly way that *was* necessary.

Yes. Jean Reno was blown up in first one, but… more Vanessa Redgrave?!? Yes, please! She might be my favorite character in the entire series.

I wonder how it would “read” as an audiobook. Huh. If you find one, I hope you’ll report back.

I would say it is around the same level of Beowulf as the film, but it is kind of its own thing.

It’s all presented as a translation of a found text, so it’s filled with footnotes where the translator is explaining words, phrases, and interpretations of what the text might have meant. There are jumps where pieces of the original text was missing, etc.

The book is great. Very different than the movie, but filled with clever ideas.

If it is the one I think you’re referring to, I completely agree. My mouth was hanging open. I couldn’t believe he pulled it off so well.

Please stop hinting at the next Shunting and just send out the calendar invite. Sheesh. Some of us need time to plan.
