2024, the government spent $6.75 trillion, which was more than it collected (revenue), resulting in a deficit. The deficit was $1.8 trillion. To eliminate the deficit would require cutting spending by 27%. The Trump tax cuts will totally offset any spending reductions leaving the budget in a deficit
