The three-year survey of flying ants in the UK found "Observations occurred from June to September with 97% occurring in July/August". Apparently none of the >13,000 observations were in May.

It's the difference between "oh man, there are excellent scholars in [name a country outside of the English-speaking world], they should also have a role in shaping the field", and "there's a small number of people from X category, let's all make their job harder".

Of course the caveat is not to be surprised or upset if they say no. I guess someone who's the only prominent representative of a demographic in their field might be inundated with well intenioned requests.
