Oh for sure---I just like pointing out the "5:30 AM strategy" used in the 70s and 80s because it blows up people's narrative that the Fairness Doctrine had to give the opposing viewpoint a) equal time and b) present it right after the original opinion was aired.

Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would change very little about the current media landscape.

Even if they were, it changes very little. The cable outlets would just do what TV stations used to do when the Fairness Doctrine was in place--put the "opposing view" on at 5:30 on Sunday morning.
The overall question is moot until SCOTUS changes the Red Lion decision, however.

LOL and now it’s “I had to shut comments down because I was sick of arguing semantics” or something.
No, you shut comments down because you were getting your ass handed to you and couldn’t handle it.

2nd time I have seen this lunatic throwing out awful misinformation and pretending he’s knowledgeable.
I find it hilarious to read in a “can’t look away from the car wreck” sense.

The "give the other viewpoint 30 mins" was a rare thing indeed.

Both religious programming and RW radio had started to explode during the Fairness Doctrine era. That would have continued with syndication whether or not the FD had been abolished or whether it wasn't. That would have then led to cable, which was outside of FCC jurisdcition.

I'm old enough to remember that the Fairness Doctrine had nothing to do with misinformation or letting a "regular person" have 30 minutes. Sometimes, though, a station did let regular people have 30 mins or even an hour--often at such wonderful time slots as a 5:30 Sunday AM public affairs show.

Clearly. I wish the ump would have to explain what the runner was supposed to do instead.

I wish the ump had to explain what the runner was supposed to do in that situation.

However, on second thought, I nominate Trump and that comment for an award:

Yeah, I mean, it's obviously racist that you referred to a Nigerian Prince. 🙄

It means you had an emergency landing and had to exit via the emergency doors!

Hopefully not because it “landed early and awkwardly” 😂
