That earwig paper has some issues... most obviously too many statistical tests without correction, straight lines fitted through obviously non-linear relationships (last 4 panels of figure 2), plus the assumption that positive allometry = sexual selection is deeply questionable.

Yeah-he was flying in and out with normal sized twigs, then headed off in a different direction, was gone for ages and then nonchalantly came back with half a tree.
