The world they inhabit, for sure. This novel, though, was an extension/precursor of a rather tight short story. It probably just needed to stay there.

Thanks. My gut tells me that it's the former rather than the latter, but walking away from something with that many months of writing is a hard pill to swallow.

How do you know if a book has the right legs? I’ve recently put a book into "cold storage” and switched to a book that flows more. I love the characters and plot in both stories, but one is much more laborious to write. I can’t tell if that’s because it’s got issues or it’s just a harder subject.

Definitely Weaponised Archaeologists. I need to know if they have been given tools of destruction or if they are themselves the tools of destruction. Regardless, I need to know to what end.

It was a great episode and the very thorough breakdown of how it fits into this moment in society was extremely well done. We’re big hockey fans here and the amount of betting ads makes us sour. Feels like a hijacking of something I’ve loved for over 40 years. No one needs to know the line, ever.

My wife might not like it, but I think it's time to introduce them to this glittering masterpiece as well. Thanks for the idea. They've taken kindly to everything else I've introduced them to, so we shall see.

Aww, man. Amazing game. I like their Into the Breach game as well, but FTL will always be the gold standard.

A Magnum Opus if ever there was one.

I can't even get my family to watch anymore, since it's a 50/50 chance it'll be sad. Let alone buying tickets to a game.

Once the news came out about Deepseek, my first thought was that it will be a great next episode.

Ticket to Ride is a fan favorite here as well. I'd also recommend Azul.

Safisfactory...and then lots of Board Games. Dominion for the win.

One of my daughter's earliest memories is waking me up at 5:30 in the morning so I could teach her to play minecraft. She was 6. She is 14 now and we still talk about the Cansion (cave-mansion) we built. It was one of the first ways of connecting and we cherish it. Glad to see others had the same.

That's just nice.

We closed the business and I no longer needed to advertise on Meta. When I finally deleted the account after one to many soul rending scroll sessions, I felt light again. Normal. Thanks for the story. I felt seen. 3/3

Spoiler alert: advertising on Meta works just as well as lighting your hard-earned on fire. Anyway, I got sucked into Instagram scrolling (which I had avoided for 46 years of life, and every time I'd stop, I felt a pervasive hollowness as well. I felt used, dirty even. 2/3

I usually measure my level of compulsion. I step away when something isn't working and if I can't get it out of my head or I keep going back to review it again and again, I keep working through the trough. If, however, I can let it go after a few days, I'll walk away from it.

I've had more than a few conversations with AI startup companies asking them about how they make sure their software is accurate, and it's usually a bunch of hand waving and shrugs. A whole industry built on VC money being fed into other VC backed AI companies.

High art, I say. High art!

It's bots all the way down, I'm afraid. And those bots follow anyone with the keyword "Married" or "Husband" I'm guessing. Our bios have been weaponized.

The amount of only-fans follow backs makes me want to weep. Then I hope it's AI slop and then I regret that hope too.
