After being directed into punk rock via a friend and backtracking on other bands, Kill Em All also became a favorite. I see it less as their ode to NWOBHM, it stands out because (in my head) Cliff Burton tightened them up with a punk attitude.

Besides the nonstop touring and giant live album before that, from Load to S&M fans got like four straight years of music from them. "You wanted more, here you go!"

I was on a hunt for some riffs I taped off the METAL radio station a few turns down from the basic big rock station. Someone said it was Metallica. Got the black album, not it. MoP, not it, but became the best thing ever. Those riffs were from Whiplash & One. It took years to find them! :P

They still play King Nothing 30 years later. It has to connect with someone!

What are your fav songs from these albums? Mine are 2x4, Wasting My Hate, and Ronnie. And Outlaw Torn really was one of the best things did, their spacy dreamlike slow burn that ends with an almost unrelated jam.

I mean we have a child sitcom star who admits as an adult, likely serious, can't watch horror movies because the portal will open next to her vcr to unleash Satan on us all.

Oh, me too. But the argument of "Oh okay, well, if Load isn't heavy, have you heard Carcass' Heartwork?" It'd be one thing if such an album were bad, but it's just a taste. Metallica was heavy metal to these people. Something heavier was too much?

Just remember how the black was EVERYWHERE.

I got the "your first album was the black album! Poseur!" for a long time. BTW it's hard to get all into a genre of music when you have a parent who throws away your cds, and not because they think it sucks.

I can't imagine older metal head pals being like "that's when I discovered metal!" But who knows.

I'm a fan of the hits! Sorry! I love the band, when they were a band. The doc on Disney was put together from other docs over the years,it weirdly paints Mike Love as a victim of Brian's neglectfulness as he sues for credit. At least it didn't sugarcoat Murry's abuse of the Wilson boys.

There's a debate over whether the hits are better or are banal layman fodder that the evil cousin/remaining bandmember trots out to perform vs the all-over-the-place on his whims stuff that Brian was coming up, with weirdo opportunistic hanger-ons. Regardless, Brian was a genius in both eras.

Just imagine that there's this dad in southern California who discovers that his 3 sons sing in perfect harmony, encouraging (...via threats) to write music about whatever them damn kids are into: fun, sun, & surf. He strikes radio gold.
