Someone we love faces barriers every day—maybe even you. Together, we can break them down. This Global Accessibility Awareness Day, let’s spread the word. Accessibility is love in action. #GAAD #GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay #Accessibility #A11y #Inclusion #love FlightStudio1.com

For a little bit of positivity in this chaotic day, here’s some of my pets. They don’t care whether you own ponds or whatever

Given recent conversations in the industry, I wanted to highlight some amazing organizations, resources, and community-driven groups working hard to advance accessibility in gaming. There’s a lot of great work happening — and it deserves more visibility. A thread ♿️♥️

Tax the Rich. Name the Rich. Oppose the Rich. I vote no.

A good analogy. It’s often more painful when folks aren’t just flying past… but they have no idea that they have an engine doing the hard work for them as they’ve never had to think about it. Such a different experience of life.

Ah yes, smartwatch data which famously includes a handy graph of autistic-ness. Apple will snitch on you when you stim too much.

What actual transparent government looks like "When 18F was eliminated, GSA took down our blog, guides, and the entire 18F site. But we created those resources for the public, and as we pledged on March 1, we’re determined to keep them available for as long as we can." 18f.org/topics/worki...

Everything old is new. @nytimes.com, Friday, July 2, 1937: Hitler honors USA tech co IBM president Thomas J. Watson for helping the Reich hunt down “undesirables.”

What’s the Difference Between WCAG, the EAA, and EN 301 549? Complex topic indeed. I love a good food metaphor, so here we go: - WCAG is the cookbook that tells you how to prepare accessible digital content. - The EAA is the food safety law: it makes serving accessible content mandatory in the EU.

Good morning, Bluesky. Happy #CincoDeMayo!

A whistleblower says Elon Musk’s DOGE team accessed confidential NLRB data on union activity—raising alarms about intimidation tactics that could silence workers. This isn’t just overreach. It’s a threat to workers labor rights. seiu.co/44qGyEs

“Did DOGE take sensitive labor data?” www.npr.org/2025/04/15/1... No transcript. Musk is gathering info on NLRB cases against his companies. He may then pull an Exxon: “Climate activists were hacked. There was a link between victims and an alleged attacker” www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

Hey y'all I'm still recovering from surgery. And most likely still can't work for a bit if you can check out my ko-fi and thank you very much for the support. #mutualaid #helpsky #helpfolkslive2025 ko-fi.com/TiffanyWitcher

The UK’s Data Use and Access Bill puts marginalised groups at risk of opaque, unfair and harmful automated decisions. Yvette Cooper and Peter Kyle must address the lack of safeguards governing law enforcement use of automated decision-making tools before time runs out.

1/ HOW TO TRIAGE AN IMMIGRATION EMERGENCY As someone who has been defending non-citizens in deportation proceedings since 2006, I am here to tell you that we know exactly who Trump's top targets will be, & how we can try to protect them NOW. NOT LEGAL ADVICE but here's what we know about priorities

There won't be any newsletter this week, because, personal reasons. So, to start the week, instead, enjoy an article I wrote last year on checking and documentation accessibility in design tools like Figma:

Once you see accessibility, you can’t unsee it. Only then can you start to do better. Make it your goal so that everyone around you can’t unsee it too. Then we can ALL begin to do better. And you don’t burn yourself out in the process by trying to do it all 😉

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

Excited to announce I've begun the process of building out my first set of courses: 'WCAG for Designers'. If you're interested in learning how to understand and apply the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines as a designer, feel free to drop a follow or sign up for updates at shellelittle.com

Last week @makersmakingchange.bsky.social updated the firmware of their LipSync, an open source mouth controlled input device for people with limited mobility. The new firmware makes usability improvements based on user feedback, such as adjustable scrolling speed. caniplaythat.com/2025/04/07/m...

EFF is proud to join this amicus brief in support of Perkins Coie and against the Trump administration's efforts to punish law firms for refusing to do the government's bidding.

Conservatives like to complain about “the mainstream media” but in reality the mainstream of social media, cable news and podcasts is decidedly right wing. It’s only legacy print media that is arguably left-wing in outlook. And barely so.

The auto-follow feature in AC Shadows is a literal AuDHD life saver. Straight up DNF’d past games over excessive follow quests. Might get close to finishing my first Assassin’s Creed game 🥹

“You have to plan ahead if you’re going to cross a border,” EFF’s Sophia Cope told the @washingtonpost.com. “What that plan looks like really can be different for different people.”

@tetralogical.com dropping knowledge on the European #Accessibility Act #EAA 👏🏽 What does it all mean for your organisations? tetralogical.com/blog/2025/03...

A list of WCAG 2.2 Level A & AA success criteria that I think cannot be completely tested w automated tools. These require manual testing because they involve meaning, usability, intent, or user experience that automated tools cannot fully evaluate.   html5accessibility.com/stuff/2025/0...

Super excited to see this in the wild! And 👏🏽 to all the wonderful people who worked on this initiative 💞

Teen Vogue: remains braver than almost any other news outlet at this time.

For anyone who will be at GDC, here's a handy cheat-sheet of all of the game accessibility sessions (including the big main stage one from ESA) - ian-hamilton.com/game-accessi... #GDC #GDC25 #GDC2025 #gamedev #indiedev

A great breakdown of what #18F & #USDS did for civic tech (the people of the USA). Thank you 🙏🏽 And the truth of #DOGE’s incompetence, lack of qualifications, & hires based on loyalty. I’m extremely worried for all our personal data in their hands. 😩 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/skilled-te...

This is tragic. Anyone who was familiar with 18F knows those were some of the real heroes of government, who helped make government tech/digital services better for the public. They were doing real work that DOGE pretends to do, but is too ignorant to know how to do.

They’re scrubbing every sign of decency from the record. Anything that helps the public must be erased, denied, forgotten. Compassion, above all, is to be rubbed out.

If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company. It’s just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create. They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms. I’m happy to invest and/or help

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was just demolished by Musk’s team. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 million. A thread about 18F:

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

Extremely sad & disappointed that #18F a huge part of modernizing the US Gov. digital civic tools for its citizens is being shut down by this administration. So many smart, talented and caring people. Thinking of you 💕 Here’s a letter from 18F 18f.org

Here is the co-founder of Substack blaming its users for seeing Nazis on the platform and then trying to deflect from the fact that Substack revenue shares with Nazis by saying he encounters more extremism here on Bluesky (which doesn't revenue share with Nazis). This is I ndefensible.

🎸🎤 What happens when a bunch of #accessibility nerds try to start a band? You get Aria-Live—the group that never was... until now! 🎶♿ From screen reader vocals to an EAA anthem, this is accessibility like you've never heard before. 🔊🚀 Sing along 👉 medium.com/flight-studi... #A11y #Music

Genuinely looking forward to this conversation among the chaos of the world.
