If there was evidence, then Argentina would have gone to the ICJ in 1946 falklandstimeline.files.wordpress.com/2022/01/falk...

Nonsense. The resolution was adopted by consensus, as it is every year. So there was no vote, and no abstentions. Not that it matters. Since 1989 the C24 resolution is automatically blocked by the 4th Committee. falklandstimeline.wordpress.com/wp-content/u... Every year, it fails.

Quite the contrary. Argentina's claim is founded upon an unrecognised inheritance from Spain. If Argentina had a claim - historical, legal or geographical - it would have gone to the ICJ in 1946. A little history falklandstimeline.files.wordpress.com/2022/01/falk... Or something simpler?

Roger doesn't care. I am quite happy with the current arrangements which will adjust with every new government. And there will still be no push to the UK to go back into the EU. relax children. We are out, you are in. Win, win.

Wars do not decide elections. Ask Churchill. Maggie did good in 1982 falklandstimeline.wordpress.com/wp-content/u... but Labour gave her the '83 election en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_lon... That said, the Tories were 2 points ahead 2 days before the invasion.

Grab this - 33% in '79, 22% in '80 & 11% in '81 (although they clawed some back through pension revisions). Mind you, pre-1979 the pay was pretty grim.

I was in favour of Brexit. I was also in favour of the Common Market which Thatcher also thought a good idea. The EU grew into something else. If it had stayed the CM we'd still be there.

Belgrano was a long way from the carrier group. I do agree that the loss of a carrier could have been fatal.

The PM did not speak directly to the commander of the Sub. The hierarchy simply doesn't work like that. Nor did the radio. The OD(SA) made decisions on a collective basis. Thatcher was one vote although she could be persuasive. The final decision to press the button was down to the sub commander.

Seriously, I doubt that was ever likely. The biggest danger was the weather with the austral winter. Once we could get boots on the ground, it was all over for Argentina.

I'm not certain that either the UN or the ICJ was correct. The Chagos were taken from France and never belonged to Mauritius in any real sense of the word. They were only administered from Colonial Mairitius as a matter of convenience for the British government. On that basis, ...

An interesting ruling, based upon the lack of consultation with the people of the Chagos - something which, once again, is baffling the UN. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Thatcher was ambushed. Difficult position, as there were things that she could not say. In particular, anything that would tell the Argies that GCHQ was able to decipher their codes. She fumbled the interview, but no, there was no decision by Thatcher to sink the Belgrano.

But there isn't going to be another referendum. It's done. None of the main Parties are considering it.

We will. That has nothing to do with being a member of the EU, but a lot to do with being a member of NATO
