#3Things for SAT: Day of Garlic & Mugwort 1. Perfect day for a street fair, but kinda hot; we got lucky and were placed in an indoor space with AC. 2. I met so many thoughtful people today. Joy still happens! 3. Funky clouds in the skies over Seattle today!

Repeat to yourself what Dinah Laprairie says here: "A book is slow, immersive media." Do it. Repeat the words. Sometimes in this fast-food information world, where consumption of art happens just. like. that. , we need to be reminded that novels are slow culture. janefriedman.com/its-a-book-n...

Glad to know I'm not the only one who does this. Some novels are just so elusive when it comes to structure and POV... but then, I can never just write something in a linear and straightforward way. writerunboxed.com/2025/05/13/c...

Haven't seen this doc yet but really looking forward to it! niemanstoryboard.org/2025/05/30/p...

A must-read/fresh take on the recent AI book list debacle. Warner: "I would argue (and have argued) that the chief identity for the American of this era is a 'consumer.'” Scroll down--you'll also find "We've Been Consumed," with an apt image from IDIOCRACY. biblioracle.substack.com/p/we-have-me...

Self published writer uses AI to mimic a famous writer, then doesn't proof their own mss, exposing AI notes *in the text*... one reason why SP authors have a bad reputation... no respect for the rigors of revision/editing/proofreading and won't hire a pro to do it screenrant.com/romance-book...

I can't tolerate a firehose of doomscrolling in my socials ... it's a problem especially among those shocked by today's state of affairs in the US (y'all shouldn't be). We need to fight collective despair, and we can, once we acknowledge it. brightgreenfutures.substack.com/p/episode-24...

Best case for sensitivity readers I've seen in a long time. "...even if the writers are the gods of their story, their bipedal humanoid readers have the final say once it’s printed and out of their hands."--Karen A. Parker janefriedman.com/sensitivity-...

I ran into a writer today who said they don’t have time to read and couldn’t name a book they’d read recently. They also complained about struggles finding an agent/publisher. These two things are linked even if the writer doesn’t think they are. writershelpingwriters.net/2025/05/read...

Writers need your support! Cheap and easy ways to promote an author’s books These days, social media is, by itself, not going to be of great help for those trying to get their books into readers’ hands, owing mostly to the highly charged political landscape we have all found ourselves in. The best…

I have only dabbled a bit in enneagrams. I prefer to meet characters as they emerge on the page. However, this post gives me pause. Maybe this could be useful post-draft 1 test, to not only see how well I know my characters, but to see if I've distinguished them enough.
