And all in service to a 5-time draft dodger who wants and will have a military spectacle for his birthday.

Been waiting for Trump and his minions to show their evidence. Seems to be pretty thin at this point, and I doubt they have the legal talent to carry the day. If Abrego Garcia has some good DC legal talent to defend him, it should go well for him.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... All that's missing are the Sam Brown Belts and the jackboots.

We have never really lived up to the dream of our Founders as contained in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. But we can become that nation if we acknowledge our failings and rededicating ourselves to the vision we claim to hold so dear.

I've been alive as a male for 80 years, and I can honestly say that I have never spent much time thinking about another man's balls. But I suspect that children (and those who would be considered a man-child) might do so. Testosterone can cause people to become absolute idiots.

Yes, we need to respond to the moment and protect our democracy. But we also need to challenge the Republicans in the 2026 mid-terms. If we don't do both, the Democrats will remain a minority party.

The new Gestapo in action! A sad day in America, all to pacify the out of control egos in the White House.

The current Democratic leadership is amazingly ineffective. This 80 y/o is more than ready for some new and younger leaders to take the fight to the Republicans. If some older establishment Dems get their feelings hurt, so be it!

We will have peace only when both Jews and Palestinians can live side by side in harmony and dignity. Politicians creating conflict to further their own interests will only destroy, not build.

The UN resolution establishing Israel also called for a Palestinian state. Wanting both people to have a homeland has become defined as antisemitism. Justice for both parties is the only solution.

If only any of what Bessent said was actually true and not just another MAGA pipe dream. But naturally it's not.

Like a lot of folks, they assumed that Trump really didn't mean what he was saying, so they automatically voted for the Republican candidate. Now they get to reap what they have sown. Would be nice if they learned, but don't bet on it.

Bullies with a gun and a badge. They are going too far hunting down the enemies of the Furher and his minions. At least they didn't hide their faces like the rest of the Gestapo. Wonder if Chuckie Schumer will take the time to give a good "hurrumph" to show his disapproval.

Strange how those words can also be applied to Musk's co-President.

What RFK Jr is trying to do isn't even as good as the reputation of GNC. Making up studies to support your position shows that he and his minions do not have the integrity to be taken seriously. The health of the American people deserves more care than the quacks at HHS are capable of.

Experts might not give the desired answer. RFK Jr. can and will rely on his own "expertise" and that of his hand-picked advisors.

The Georgia Attorney General claims that the Georgia fetal heartbeat law doesn't prevent pulling the plug, but if the hospital allows the family to pull the plug, I'm pretty sure there would be a civil lawsuit filed against the hospital and the family, if not criminal charges.

Just one felon pardoning another felon. Apparently this pardon is more about loyalty to the Emperor than about how the sheriff was treated in the sting by the FBI that caught him. The Emperor doesn't care what the lowly taxpayers think.

The Internet says a lot of things. Some of it is true, some of it is wishful thinking, and some of it is flat out false. Trust, but verify.

At least Charles' role is largely ceremonial in Canada and Australia. In the US, our Supreme Court gave us a new King/President complete with immunity and supreme power just like the former Kings of England enjoyed.

We can't invest in things for the "common good" unless it enriches big corporations. That is why we spend so much on the military. Only when we as a nation rediscover the idea of a common good will we be willing to invest in things that help everyone without focusing first on profit.

In China (and much of the rest of the world) the state operates HSR. But in the US, we can't "afford" that, so we need a private company willing to make the investment and charge high fares to recoup the cost. That means HSR in the USA will be very expensive, and airfare cheaper.

That is not what I meant by using the term. I used the term as separate from race ( which is a bogus concept anyway). I can't control the meaning you place on the term. But I can and do object to you relying on your own prejudices to assume that I share those prejudices.

Black Americans are probably the most loyal Democrats, but even they are starting to defect. Yes, some are working class, but not all. There are some who would be considered middle class, and some who are wealthy. We're not in the 1950's anymore.
comment in response to

Rahm Emanuel's insistence that the Democrats cozy up to Wall Street, because they had money, is part of the reason why Democrats lost the working class voters. We need more FDR-style Democrats and fewer closet Republicans leading the Democratic party.

As a fellow Vietnam era veteran who lost friends in that stupid war, I share your reminder that today is not about us, but about all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this nation. Without their sacrifice, who knows where we would be today.

The last thing a would-be dictator wants is an educational institution not under his con. Such an institution could become the center for opposition forces. Orban took control of the universities in Hungry for the same reason Trump is doing it here.

Kennedy claims children today are unhealthy, but his approach of denying scientific evidence and promoting conspiracy theories will only make them even less healthy. He may have a couple good ideas, but the overwhelming idiocy in this document does nothing to improve children's health.

When you work for someone who lies almost continuously, it's not hard to adopt the same practice. The real shame is that the so-called professional "journalists" actually function as stenographers, duly reporting what is said without question.

Is this really accidental, or part of an unannounced plan? Republicans have been after Medicare since 1965. This may wound but not destroy Medicare, and we should not let the Republicans get away unscathed. Seniors aren't likely to take this lying down.

But Biden doesn't file frivolous lawsuits, so it's safer to focus on him. Besides, the media owners (and Tapper) are busy sucking up to Trump, so they're not going to report anything significant on him. Just a bunch of wussies.
