That's the punk in me, I suppose. We were always like hell man I don't care how you got here, we're just glad you made it. Nobody here is going to tell you how to do it, because nobody here knows how to do it. We WILL however tell you which music you like sucks, sorry about that in advance

I will never in my life understand the impulse to attack people who would otherwise be allies on any substantive issue over some silly nonsense. That's some goofy teenager shit right there. We all have growing to do even now, and we need to let people in, rather than box them out over nothing.

This always bothers me when I see people getting harangued for failing some purity test when it comes to politics I have come a LONG way to get to my current place, and if I got harassed about not being enough back then, I'm enough of a reactionary asshole that I may have been derailed on my journey

And that ultimately making good things in an uncaring world is an act of resistance. That we will not let them win and regardless of anything else we will keep singing. Maybe it is polishing brass on the Titanic, but I want to make that shit SHINE before we all sink.

But I don't want to make Pop, I couldn't even if I wanted to. It's just not ME. I want a publisher that is independent and unattached to the mainstream, unbeholden to trends, that just wants to make good stuff. I want a publisher that believes that the book existing is the goal.

I recently went to a writer's conference that was very agent/trad publishing heavy, and I had an important realization: they want to make Pop Music. They are looking for the catchiest beat and the least challenging lyrics. And that's just fine for them. The stuff they produce is consistently good

Yeah. We also talked about the comparison of trauma and how just because you have been hurt you do not automatically understand other people's hurt.
