No one said don't get trained. Folks have repeatedly told us they "don't know the first thing" and range time would make them nervous. That's why this is available, pre-range intro.

Yes, it's an NRA class, but don't let that turn you away. If you are beginning your journey with arms, it's a free educational resource that will take you 4-6 hours to finish and you can access from your couch courtesy of the Choctaw nation. Please make use of it if it could benefit you.

Completion of this online course issues you a hunters education card valid for life in all 50 states. While you might not want to be a hunter, if you are brand new to firearms this curriculum covers function of different firearms types, ammunition, safe handling, how to carry your gun, etc.
