Underlying general point however is that this is all very funny stuff and I hope the tournament continues to be an unmitigated disaster that even FIFA can’t spin x

There is obviously no guarantee that Liverpool will be better either. But all the evidence over the past 10 yrs is that Liverpool consistently make smart decisions, so I’m just fascinated how every summer when the BBC Top 4 predictions graphic drops, Liverpool will sit 3rd and 4th for the majority.

It’s interesting because it’s a continuation of a pattern where the default position of ā€œfootball peopleā€ in the media is to be sceptical about Liverpool, going into a new season. No matter how often this crop prove them wrong. And it’s always based on little more than ā€œit just can’t go onā€.

The issue is the convoluted link with the actual qualifiers and to be honest, I think UEFA would be better off making the Nations League (in an enhanced capacity) the sole structure of qualification for major tournaments. ā€˜Andorra v England’-like games of football are in no one’s interest.

verdict: he’s great *and* a little shit. getting a tattoo of him on my eyeballs as we speak.

The mid-September international break is the best one. Been there since the beginning of time, and heads absolutely go at the horror of having to pause the season 5 games in. Like clockwork every year.

Yeah this is defo to the benefit of Ireland as well. Playing regularly with Collins too is a good thing.

I agree. Was worried he’d go to a Championship team just promoted and be bombarded with shots all season long. Think Brentford fits well, given they like to try and play football plus they’ve big lads everywhere to compensate for Caoimh’s height.

But yeah, I just hope his career blossoms now even further and a full season as Brentford’s number 1 sets him up nicely to be Ireland’s number 1 at the World Cup next summer……

And yes, he’s not Alisson. Could never understand why so many held Caoimhin not being of Ali’s standard against him, and it’s a shame there developed a weird subculture within the fanbase that would hyper analyse *every* goal he’d concede. And I’m glad I don’t have to listen that shite anymore.

And for what his role was, his contribution has been genuinely remarkable. From penalty saves against Real Madrid in the Champions League to literally winning us two League Cups at Wembley, I’ve been in awe that some young fella who lived around the corner from mine could do all this. Just so proud.

Look I’m very aware I’m biased here. Not alone is he from my city, but I worked with his brother, my mother knows his mother well, his Dad was my hurling coach. It’s as close as I’m likely to ever get to ā€œknowing someoneā€ from my city playing for Liverpool. And that was genuinely a privilege to see.

Perhaps but they prob have the resources to be annoying in the market at the very least. Wouldn’t surprise me if the current top 5 is a bit of a lock for the next 2-3 seasons.

Agree. I’m glad everyone took the day yesterday, let the news of those injured have its space - and now that we have hopeful news on that front, we can remember the joy of the weekend in good faith. And it was so so joyful.

Like I really do appreciate that I haven’t seen the videos of the incident pop up here. But just the numbers aren’t here for time-sensitive updates when you needed it most - it had to be twitter and risk seeing horrible scenes. Which is a truly fucked scenario to be in during an ā€œemergencyā€.

Because on one hand it was beautiful seeing so many people offering lifts, advice and their couches for those stranded. But in between every post like that, there was some hateful shit-stirrer trying to blame the fans or the video itself. Was emotionally exhausting.
