Out now in JAMA: Together with Meike Shedden Mora and Winfried Rief @rief01.bsky.social , we share four evidence-supported communication strategies to help health care professionals improve patient expectations—and thereby enhance treatment outcomes. #MedTwitter #Psychology

In a study of 746,880 inpatients, 11% received delayed broad-spectrum therapy (DBT). Mortality was 8.7% (DBT) vs. 9.5% (early therapy), readmission 10.5% vs. 11.8%, and adverse events 8.4% vs. 7.2%. DBT showed better outcomes (win-ratio 1.06). #idsky

6 beers deep, vehemently nodding along to my friend’s story, yelling “exaaaactly” at every point they make.

Check out this cool collaboration with @hernando-amado.bsky.social, just out in @natcomms.nature.com! We show that ciprofloxacin resistance rapidly declines in clinical P. aeruginosa strains under drug-free conditions, suggesting that ciprofloxacin restriction periods could help in clinics 🦠🧫

Haven't we learned over and over, from elections domestic and foreign, that scootching over towards the right succeeds only in alternating the base and empowering the right without peeling off any moderate voters.

I thought BDS was supposed to be a bad thing?

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute this piece to @heterodoxacademy.bsky.social's magazine, Inquisitive, with the help of @alicedreger.bsky.social. inquisitivemag.org/articles/the... It briefly recounts the frivolous SLAPP lawsuit I faced after speaking up to protect science & people.

A 23-Year-Old Crypto Bro Is Now Vetoing NSF Grants While Staring At His Water Bottle Picture this: You're a researcher who has spent years developing a grant proposal, gone through layers of expert review, and received National Science Foundation (NSF) approval. Then some kid barely out of college…

The latest wave of COVID revisionism is a transparent attack on the idea of expertise itself. It is not 'hubris' for public health professionals to issue guidance during public health emergencies!

NEW: Important Context spoke with a dozen people working at NIH about Director Jay Bhattacharya. The descriptions were universally unflattering, painting the health economist as ineffectual, dishonest, ideological, arrogant, and uncommitted to science. www.importantcontext.news/p/out-of-his...

Hell yeah old ladies, scare off those gestapo cowards!

Fry* the beans! *they won't get fried tho

Woof. "End Times Fascism" is such a good concise description. A commitment to a world of survival bunkers, and a commitment to making that world happen. Slash, burn, steal, exclude, and above all, prep (for profit). www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

"We thank the reviewers for their helpful comments"

Imagine being so incredibly contemptuous of your own electorate. Do Republican voters really not understand their elected officials hate them? I guess as long as they hate Others more. 🤷‍♂️

The goal is plainly and literally to cut the number of people involved in basic science in the US by 70%

#TeamAzithro Also true story, while it does prolong QT it *does not* promote arrhythmia, unlike the other macrolides.

When a homeless man questioned the Phoenix police’s authority to stop him in Feb. 2020, an officer knelt on his neck while another shocked him with a Taser. Another unhoused man said officers threw away his things, telling him, “You guys are trash and this is trash.”

I urge everyone to read Unbreaking’s new page on everything the govt is doing to destroy & diminish medical research funding. It’s the best thing I’ve read on this topic: @lizneeley.bsky.social & co have such done an incredible job. unbreaking.org/issues/medic...

B👏I👏D👏 baby!

Department of Homeland Security officers invading a congressman's offices and arresting a staffer who tried to stop them is very, very bad. gothamist.com/news/homelan...

Texas cops tried to find an abortion patient by using data from an automatic license plate reader (ALPR), which gave them access to over 83,000 cameras across the country. The dystopian future feminists have been warning about is already here. www.404media.co/a-texas-cop-...

these visuals hardly do it justice, but just staggering to contemplate this scale of destruction. An estimated 60 percent of all buildings destroyed; 90 percent of housing gone. 90 percent of the population -- 1,900,000 people -- displaced www.bbc.com/news/world-m...

Two things to note, they're admitting up front: 1) If your social media account is private, they will assume you are hiding anti-American sentiment and act as such (ie block entry) 2) This is a trial run for broad deployment against all visa applicants

whole op-ed by david brooks is very good but this bit in particular I think is spot on. Or to summarize it even further: there are a lot of people who are patriots and a lot of people who are nationalists, and I think too often folks get those two confused. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/29/o...

Interesting claim of a case of blastomycosis acquired in New York City. Blastomycosis is thought of as a disease acquired in woodlands and rural waterways, but it was first described by Gilchrist in Chicago in 1894. More recently, cases have been diagnosed in denizens of Toronto and Boston #IDSky

I would've never expected Pharmacy Benefit Managers do something as wretched as block access to a good effective drug because their competitor offered more kickbacks to line their pockets. ... Sorry, I'm being told that is the entire job of PBMs, who in fact are parasites and should be abolished.

This man would never take public transit. He talks out his ass, gushing foul air and empty lies like the rest of the water closet (aka Cabinet).

the mRNA vaccines are an absolute miracle of science that saved millions of lives and we're going to throw the entire technology out because they could not vaccinate society against putting the worst and most ignorant people alive in charge of our medical system

A hungry crowd of Palestinians broke into a United Nations warehouse in central Gaza, resulting in at least two deaths and multiple injuries as famine conditions worsen in the Strip.

"Yes, Cuomo is awful, but I have some policy differences with the progressives, so this is hard." This is not hard. What you do is, you set aside your precious little checklist, and YOU DON'T VOTE FOR THE AWFUL PERSON.

Very concerning. The US relies on foreign trained docs to come to the US for residency training (25% of all residents). If this rule applies to incoming medical trainees, this will affect badly not only individual residents, but also residency programs & hospitals.
