Is there such a thing as “willfully blindsided?”

How much do the responses change after the pollers define what the word "ethical" means?

Now they proudly declare themselves "privately uneasy." Is anyone going to Joni Ernst or Thom Tills if they have any regrets?

This has been my experience after every transaction I have completed or merely contemplated for the past 5 years or more.

"Trust us, the people we sent to a black site run by a foreign despot are really foreign gangsters" is not a statement compatible with the rule of law at all.

The only response I’d offer is, “Sorry you were lied to. In the future you should maybe be much more careful about where you get your information.”

That step hasn’t worked so far.

What I'd like to see added to stories like these isn't about the headline, specifically, but information about who, specifically, the authorities involved are and how other ordinary citizens can call for accountability. Ultimately, what can we do to stop this?

I find this story so chilling, and it's helped me identify the specific thing that has been upsetting me in all of the news cycle lately, which is the realization that there really exist plenty of people like the ICE officers described here - willing to inflict this type of treatment readily.

Schumer voted to advance the bill that ruthlessly dismantles our city. Now he wants to use some of our community's favorite spots (Politics&Prose/Sixth &I) to promote his book. If @politicsprose.bsky.social hosts him next Thursday as planned I'll end my membership and never buy from them again.

I absolutely believe that the Republican Party hates Washington DC because they are racists. I’m not sure why the Democratic Party hates DC (they like living here), but it’s clear that they do.

“We are fighting back…” he says as he votes yes on cloture. As a DC resident I’m long accustomed to Dems failing to support our interests, but this is the ultimate. I swear never again to donate to any party with Schumer or Gillibrand in leadership.

Trump is a very unusual lying politician because often he doesn't even know when he's lying. He's not a full time resident of reality. The Republican Party has pledged itself heart and soul to a volatile bundle of very powerful instincts attached to a semi functioning brain.

For many years
We tried
Each way we knew
To help some see.
We weren’t just ignored.
Insulted, threatened.
They were gleeful in our
Devastation.
We are still sorry
Now that they’re sorry
Too
I won’t pretend
What we feel now
Is noble.
Please don’t pretend
It’s hard
To understand.

A brief follow-up: yesterday, Sen. Grassley voted to confirm a Secretary of Commerce who supports high tariffs against Iowa farmers and to advance the nomination of a totally unqualified FBI director. And today, he will complain again about how he has no power.
