Just your typical left-wing, pinko socialist, feminist, trade unionist, anti-oppression accomplice. I love humans in theory, although not so much in practice.

God. I wish. They are many here in northern Ontario and they seem to have teamed up with the hellish black flies again this year. Bastards. Maybe they're all here? I'm sure they serve an evolutionary purpose but I'm covered in bug bites.

I think the limiting force in Andor is its showrunner.

I grew up on SW too. I don't see Andor as flawed but still great. The flaws outweigh whatever people see as great. Rogue One was a great start for a discussion about rebellion. Andor has in the same tired sexist, racist tropes that are Hollywood's bread & butter. Those flaw are too big to ignore.

I don't know what that is, and I don't care enough to find out. I already had to Google "chud" today. I' done with the SW online fandom for the next 24 hrs.

In fear of getting the old man screaming at clouds meme in response to this comment, we bought paper maps for a recent road trip and survived. You don't need an app and using a paper map means no one knows where I'm going except the people I tell.

I've been a SW fan since 1977, not a chud, & I have a lot of criticisms of Andor. It doesn't work as a prequel to Rogue One and it's pretty anemic for an anti-fascist primer. It's plot is full of unquestioned, unexamined and, even, celebrated patriarchy and white supremacy, which uphold fascism.

Well, from the make up alone, I'm going with Trump as Bette and Musk as Joan. But, really, they're just assholes.

What did you think of it?

Did Disney's PR team write this?
comment in response to post
Is it through patriarchy and white supremacy?

At the Andor critical tag, I see a posts about how the showdid Bix dirty; taking her agency, making her an object for Cassian, and, ultimately, making her serve as a vessel for his child. That's a shitty arc for her and it ruins the tragedy of Rogue one. But sure, dog, it's because she's latina.
comment in response to post
Dog, you're the guy that read an 'anti-adria arjona' tag. What did you expect to find there? You know why people use tags, right? I had to go look to see what you're talking about. Do you mean the blog by a latina from Brazil? Because I think you can stop pretending to care about racism now.

I don't see a lot of that. People are criticizing Gilroy's bad plot and character development. But if you feel less challenged and more superior by pretending that it's a shipping war, don't let me take that from you. Clearly you need it.

The tumblr tag made me realize that I'm not living in an alternate universe. There's so much praise for the final surprise reveal and my only reaction was "you've got to be f*cking sh!tting me."
comment in response to post
Probably the people with the most complaints actually like Rogue One and feel that Andor shits all over it. Hence the Jyn/Cassian thing. Anti-Nazi Leia and I agree that patriarchy and white supremacy are pillars that uphold fascism. That's why we're Andor critical. Sorry to disappoint.

Thank you so much for turning me on to this podcast!

Good for her!

This podcast reviews each arc separately, but this is the final installment. It's a thorough review by SW fans who like the series in general but see the shortcomings.

I'd love to see Gaeeth Edward's first cut with the beach battle scene.
comment in response to post
I think the uniform praise for Andor being unlike anything else from SW is just a concerted PR campaign designed to get Emmy and GG nods next year. SW doesn't get award season love, so let's make it "not" SW.

So gorgeous!

Our wonder dog, Luna, is the same. People always complement us on her training, and we have to admit that there wasn't any; she just came this way. She insists on claiming cheese and peanut butter tax, though.
comment in response to post
The critical takes that resonate with me are about the regressive writing of female and racialized characters. It's disappointing how many people are having about a series that dropped the ball so hard.

Yeah, yeah. And Dumbledore was gay.
comment in response to post
I'd rather see Gareth Edward's cut of Rogue One for free.

All the contradictions didn't bother you?

From your lips to God's ears!

I think that was Gilroy's intention. He's been diminishing Jyn Erso since 2016. This is his final cut.
comment in response to post
Yes! I meant a more compelling romance, among other things. I'm not as big as a fan. Moments of great writing, but I don't think it works as a prequel to R1.
comment in response to post
Thank goodness. All this unrestricted praise has got me wondering what everyone else was watching.
comment in response to post
I wish Disney would release Gareth Edward's cut of Rogue One, in the interest of varied stories.
comment in response to post
The out of control praise is actually taking my concerns about a generally well-done story and making me hate the whole thing. But mostly, it's the sexism and racism that turned me off Andor. I blame Gilroy, of course.
comment in response to post
Considering he couldn't maintain plot and character consistency, i don't think subtext is in his wheelhouse.
comment in response to post
I'm just so happy that they're done with Andor. They keep destroying everything good and the only way to salvage Rogue One is for Gilroy to stop. I know that's a minority opinion but I'll die on this hill.
comment in response to post
I like that. I need to start ignoring Gilroy, too. If he would just shut up.
comment in response to post
According to Gilroy, Cinta was killed off to give Vel (Fayre Marsey) the chance to have an emotional scene.
comment in response to post
And it's easy to ignore the marginalization of out groups of which you're not a part.
comment in response to post
Interesting. I think it's quite obvious that they are. They've even diminished Jyn Erso and she's not in the series. That's some misogynist voodoo. Maybe the misogyny is with Disney and Star Wars dudebro fans? I agree that the story is weak. Too bad because I liked R1Cassian.
comment in response to post
Yeah, that's a terrible reason, and it screams, "The writers room was full of men." What was her plan if Cassian survived? To rock up with a 6 yr old and say, "Hey! Surprise, Daddy! I kept your child from all these years. Aren't we truly in love?"
comment in response to post
Ah, yes. Some of us don't have the luxury to decide when and where we care about something. Some of us have a girlfriend decide for us. Given that recon, Jyn should've punched Cassian in the throat.
comment in response to post
Really? I found Mothma was constantly being talked down to by everyone, particularly Luthen. Dedra was built up so that people could enjoy her being taken down. There's nothing so satisfying as knocking a woman down a notch or two.
comment in response to post
I rolled my eyes soooo hard at Bix leaving because, according to the Force, Cassian has a higher purpose.
