Thanks to everyone who responded to our question about calming a chatty/chaotic middle school classroom! Our new article, based on all this excellent, teacher-tested advice, is out now:

I think his final strip is its own masterclass in how to close out a beloved series too.

Thanks for answering the question, Cas.

A good community makes all the difference, doesn't it?
That may be a biased take coming from me, though. 😉

How do you keep it from becoming a habit, though? There's always going to be more work to do, and it'll feel useful.

Oh yes! A community can sustain you when things are hard. The key is that it has to be a healthy one. It sounds like that was what your mentor provided to you.

Oh, can you explain a bit more about the differences in data keeping? My guess is that there are nuances that aren't obvious. #EduInFocus

That's unavoidable, I think, since identity touches upon everything a person does (or believes themselves capable of doing). #EduInFocus

This is why the responses to the first question were so intriguing to me. By making the evidence of learning visible to students, you create at the same time a history that they can later reference. The proof that they *can* succeed is already there. #EduInFocus

Looker Studio is a Google product? This is the first time I've heard of it. Is it something you use often? #EduInFocus

I love this idea of a historical record that students can flip through.
My wife is a Waldorf teacher, and her students keep illustrated notebooks of all their work. That accomplishes the same goal. #EduInFocus

I want to visit this place, walk along the shadowed streets, and admire the history broken into their walls.

It gets better! These days I'm down to 3-5 business days for the rougher ones. 😆
Seriously though, kudos for taking on the hard work.

No matter what else is happening, the illustrations of Grogu are cute. 😂

This isn't an all-the-time thing, but a strategy for the end of the day when I'm out of juice.
Either way, I also edit heavily to make sure it's my voice coming through. That's most important. #EduInFocus

It's a given that any good writing should take the audience into account.
When I'm worried about clarity or tone, I write the message's first draft, then use the AI to check if I've missed anything or to recommend a different approach. #EduInFocus

That's a really good point regarding students feeling like they're important enough for teacher attention.
I wonder if it's a matter of balance? AI for instant feedback and teacher attention for deeper guidance and reflection? #EduInFocus

I'd reach out to @tfberger.bsky.social to pitch the idea first. That's usually the better way forward. (Since he might have a specific direction or focus for you to pursue.) #EduInFocus

I'm looking forward to reading the responses to this question. This is where I expect a lot potential for AI helping teachers save time. #EduInFocus

Seems to me there's an opportunity here... an AI called Friday's Brain. 😂 #EduInFocus

I imagine that a prospective candidate can do the same thing in reverse. Offer the AI the job description and context, and then ask for coaching to help with preparing for the interview. #EduInFocus

I resist the urge to let ChatGPT tackle the first draft of messages, because I believe that writing is thinking, and I don't want to lose that valuable opportunity to think-reflect-process through the written word. (Even when bone tired.) #EduInFocus

My brain is usually fried by the end of the work day, and I occasionally need help stringing my words together in coherent order. I'll run what I want to say through ChatGPT to polish it up. #EduInFocus
