Has there ever existed a person who has a “to read” pile who has actually finished that pile before adding to it? Or is it the case that if you have such a pile, it is prohibited by some law of nature for it to ever go down to zero?

Children loved to play with toys in #Roman times too: a painted wooden toy #horse on wheels. The head is pierced at the eye for a pull-string. I can still remember my pull along dog and how I used to take him for walks in the yard. From Karanis, #Egypt, 1st- 4th c. AD. 📷Kelsey Museum of Archaeology

Someone just cancelled plans on me for this evening. I’m wondering if I should send them a thank you card.

ChatGPT is down but The Museum of English Rural Life still stands, proving once again that Silicon Valley cannot compete with the history of rural England and its people.

I'm genuinely SO excited about the new ocean map that will be at the heart of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich when this hall reopens on June 7th. It's an unusual ocean-focussed map with so much detail, and it's just brilliant. 🌊🌊 Here's a sneak peak. www.rmg.co.uk/stories/ocea...

In English, if someone asks you something and you have no idea what the answer is you could say “I haven’t the foggiest,” or “God knows,” or “I haven’t got a Scooby” (because Scooby Doo rhymes with clue). Here are ten of my favourite alternatives from other languages…

Interested in the History of Science? I am going to start a series of threads giving a brief history of science from the beginning. And where else to start but in Ancient Egypt... 🧵

The word ‘skyscraper’ was first used in the late 1800s. I learned today that the word was first used more narrowly to describe a tall ornament on top of the building itself - not the notion of ‘a very tall building’ that we use today. I love myself some etymology.

Woohoo! Go #Readerful series! So thrilled to have been a part of it 💛
