I just read through Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. I only cooked very casually pre-lockdown, and I learned by searching for recipes and making them. This book was really good for covering a lot of knowledge gaps like explaining emulsions, umami and other cooking terms I didn't really get before.

I read the Daughter's War, reread Blacktongue Thief and then reread Daughter's War back to back. His work is so good.

youtu.be/8R_CIcl29_k?... I found this fold super useful for cooking. Do this with parchment paper, wax paper or aluminum foil, and you cook things on it. It's tidier and if it's finger food, you might be able to serve it right out of the tray.

buttondown.com/charliejane/... I found this really insightful and inspiring. I'm pretty sure the author is @charliejane.bsky.social Thanks to @shinyhexagon.com for suggesting it.

Pottery piece I painted last week.

If @shinyhexagon.com broke into Microsoft Teams, this is the kind of message I imagine he'd make it send. It's on the border of creepy and philosophical. Okay, it's in creepy, but within tolerable commuting distance.

I've maintained weight for five weeks of my 100 week target. My observation is that maintaining weight is really easy when you don't eat bread, really hard when you do.

In @bluefiddleguy.bsky.social tradition, I'm going for the obscure joke. It's basically explained in the alt text

I'm shelving the book nook for the time being. It felt like I was close, but the final part is the toughest bit, and it requires a better knowledge of structural engineering than I currently have. I know I've nattered on endlessly here about it.

Here's some really cool observations for people who've seen Sinners. For people who haven't, here's a really cool observation: you need to see Sinners. Thank you, @ryancoogler.bsky.social ! It's so healing to be sharing an emotion with dozens of strangers that isn't dread!

An underrated aspect of human colleagues is that they can tell you when you shouldn’t post something.
