Both of these are great pieces. Pheby’s novels are - for all their influences, which Matthew charts - quirkily unique. The trilogy that Waterblack caps is I think an important work of contemporary fantasy.
And Amazon’s Wheel of Time is likewise a fantasy productive (if alas doomed) in its oddity.

Saw Bruce Springsteen on Saturday and this resonates. His show is both an assault on Trump's fascist authoritarianism and a celebration of the redemptive power of art. Bruce is also not fucking around. He is not going to take it any more and it is exhilarating and energizing.
