You may see this photo showing "nurses landing at Normandy on D-Day" being shared today. But it was taken months later at the French Riviera area of southern France, not Normandy. They're clearly not dressed for a war zone.

You don't have to be particularly radical to think that the idea that a state has a "right to exist" independent of whether it has the consent of everyone it governs is a nonsensical formulation. That's basic classical liberalism going back to Locke.

As with any photo purporting to depict "action" I've always been curious about to what extent this was staged. Obviously it's stage-managed to some extent but still curious how close this was to actual combat and how serious the prisoner's injuries actually were.
