Incredibly annoyed by this fiction that the regime needs or has ever needed an excuse for a crackdown. Trying to behave and be a good little citizen and content yourself with ineffectual sign-waving will get you nowhere. Dangerous delusion to think the law is anything more than an enabling tool.

People are getting kidnapped by the secret police for arguing the position of the Financial Times opinion page.

You may see this photo showing "nurses landing at Normandy on D-Day" being shared today. But it was taken months later at the French Riviera area of southern France, not Normandy. They're clearly not dressed for a war zone.

While people online argue day and night about how to be a good coalition member, here is the leading opponent to Cuomo, a Muslim democratic socialist, urging his supporters to also rank the rest of the WFP slate in order to maximize the anti Cuomo bloc's vote.

being intimidated by bluesky is so funny. yeah i keep getting my ass kicked every time i go to bath and body works

You don't have to be particularly radical to think that the idea that a state has a "right to exist" independent of whether it has the consent of everyone it governs is a nonsensical formulation. That's basic classical liberalism going back to Locke.

(After several minutes of huddled whispering) "Sakamoto-san wishes to sample one of these Jewish deli sandwiches"

Very interesting to consider that everyone in this photo quite probably spoke French as a second language

This Memorial Day let’s remember Aaron Bushnell.

Today is Quintidi the 5th of Prairial in the year 233. Prairial is the month of meadows. Today we celebrate ducks. #JacobinDay More information on ducks

As with any photo purporting to depict "action" I've always been curious about to what extent this was staged. Obviously it's stage-managed to some extent but still curious how close this was to actual combat and how serious the prisoner's injuries actually were.

You won't find an emptier suit outside of a department store. Hard to think of a major world leader this devoid of conviction and courage. Never really seen anything like it. It's like they discovered a new political quality called antileadership or something.

Born too late to work for the Glenn L. Martin Company, born too early to ride the Baltimore-DC maglev, born just in time to vote for mayor Brandon Scott

85 Years Ago #OnThisDay - Ongoing German invasion of the Low Countries and start of the Battle of France

#OnThisDay in 1917, Eugene Jacques Bullard became the first Black American combat pilot—fighting for France after being denied by the U.S. because of his race. He flew with the motto “All Blood Runs Red.” A hero buried with honors, but nearly forgotten at home.

Seems (to me) very likely that this will happen, and that they will invoke the Insurrection Act and call out the military to crush protests. Worth thinking now about what to do when it gets here.
