I was in a ski lift in Italy. The guy diagonally opp. me introduced me to Damon next to me, and Lucy opposite. Got chatting with Lucy who turned out to work for Mumm Champagne. ā€˜Damon’ was Damon Hill. He told me later I was cool, ignoring him, but I truly didn’t know who he was!

One for the UK liberals. I checked in David Steel for a flight to Senegal (hand luggage only) then a few years later I bumped into David Owen in a lift with a load of Russians going to the top floor of my office building. Amazing times.

They were at it again this morning with Kwarteng agreeing with Madeleines that they may have concerns about integration.

Have these people all been hired and trained since January? Or did they always exist in this way?

Isn’t it true that the monthly GDP figures are quite volatile and we should be looking longer term than that?

Yorkshire is the place of my birth, and my student years, yet I’ve not been for years. Heading to York for a long weekend next month with family. Should be good.

They don’t want integration. They want deportation. That’s the nub of it.

Why is Kwasi Kwarteng being platformed again? To comment on the chancellor’s spending plans from his posit of ignorance, failure and bad attitude?

Wow that’d be enough to justify a citizen’s arrest surely?

That’s what happens when you govern. You have to be much more circumspect. You can’t shoot from the hip.

They were probably just going away on one of their many holidays

It will be better for the asylum seekers if they can live in dignity, cook for themselves with proper facilities and not be a target by locals pissed off that their own wages are stagnating.

I remember Truss being asked by Andrew Neil how many houses her party had built. The number was not hard to remember. It was zero.

Happy birthday Russ.

What is that in £bn?
comment in response to post
Good comms overall but some of the Ā£bn figures are unclear whether it’s per annum or cumulative to date since leaving.

Great for the economies of those European countries though. And less of an imbalance in Uk as City far outweighed every other sector

This is one of the most disturbing stories I’ve read today… and there have been quite a few…

Agree the gov needs to look at equalising capital gains tax over a headline wealth tax.

Now BBC bosses think they need to pander to ReformUK voters even more than they already do bylinetimes.com/2025/06/09/b...

This will complete their aim of destroying the BBC from the inside. 😢

Some may but not enough to move the dial.

That’s not the point. It needs to be across the board or it has virtually no effect.

WTAF? So the news is now going to consist purely of Nigel Farage speeches and Diane Abbot gaffes, with dramas purely consisting of plucky Brits fighting WWII against the odds?

The moment he (or the subtitles) referred to ICE as Eyes sent a chill up my spine. #HandmaidsTale

Some of my favourite menus from a restaurant in Turkey. We laughed so hard I’m sure the waiter thought we were being rude about him. šŸ™„

I love crap taxidermy! But I also love terrible translations on restaurant menus. There are some particular favourites that appear every year in my Facebook memories guaranteed to crack me up all over again.
