This is, for me, where the Nazi/fascist parallels work best. ‘Good’ people did nothing as the awfulness escalated because they were justifiably terrified of getting their heads kicked in or killed. It’s about comparing similar points in the process as opposed to comparing end days with early ones.

It is extraordinary, but grimly inevitable, that the people most responsible for hobbling the UK have become the loudest & whiniest critics of the consequences of their own actions. A big part of the process lies in people like ‘Lord’ Hannan actually being *rewarded* for their ignorant delinquency.

Let’s be fair, if you made your wealth here you should pay tax here, if you prefer to live abroad who cares - the US has a good system for that - all citizens pay tax wherever in the world they live.  It’s fair, citizenship has benefits nobody should freeload.

I will be watching Will Smith & Jazzy Jeff perform ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ later today & I intend to be pulled from the crowd to perform it with them word perfectly. Like that lad at Glastonbury who did ‘Thiago Silva’ with Dave a few years ago.

Enjoying a moment of respite/optimism/schadenfreude on seeing the millions of people across America protesting Trump #NoKings while he sits sulking at his boring little birthday parade. Hope is not lost. Well done America.

Great thread in preparation for Daniel Hannan Day.

Chris Mason, "Keir Starmer telling us on his way here that more British war planes have been sent to the middle east" So British foreign policy: - Protect Israel from Iranian missiles ✅ - Protect Palestinians from Israeli missiles ❌ Every life, Israeli or Palestinian should be treated the same 🙏

I tried to warn you, Mr Trump.

In 1971 Nicolae Ceaușescu visited North Korea ... saw Juche in action and all the mass spectacles to the cult of the Kims and thought "I'll have a bit of that." Quite obviously Trump’s admiration for Putin and those shows of strength in Moscow every year have had a similar impact on turnip-brain.

My traditional reminder on this day that it is great to celebrate decent father figures in your life, but you don't have to feel like you need to celebrate all fathers. Some of them are just horrendous pieces of dirt you can feel better off without, and not feeling guilty ignoring. Happy #FathersDay

🚨🚨 Wow. Trump just gave the middle finger to his own supporters. Amid growing backlash over his decision to drag the U.S. into another Middle East war, Trump now says that “America First” means whatever he says it does—while falsely claiming he invented the term.

Loved Mrs Warren’s Profession at the Garrick Theatre. Astonishing how contemporary a play from 1893 can feel. Genius of Shaw. Imelda Staunton is on another level as an actor, genuinely mesmeric.

Starting a war in order to divert political and diplomatic attention away from a genocide. Doesn't get much worse than this. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

The Meidas Mighty showing up STRONG at today's NO KINGS protests!!!

Less than two weeks to Dan Hannan Day...

BBC News, "The beginning of this military parade marking the 250th anniversary of the US army" "It also happens to be of course the 79th birthday of President Donald Trump" "It started early because of the forecast for rain.. I won't make any jokes about the rain on Donald Trump's parade"

it is so, so nice to see all these pictures and videos of people protesting across the US and also quite weird to see so many people standing, like, on random roadsides near some suburban malls, because I guess that's just where you go protest in the US?

"Special thanks to our sponsors Palantir" I guess we can be happy that profits made by Palantir from their NHS contracts are helping fund Trump's birthday parade

When nobody shows up to your birthday party

Incredible

Left: President Trump, "We're the hottest country in the world right now, and our country will soon be greater and stronger than ever before" and he is then presented with a flag on the US Army's 250th birthday celebration Right: Military Times, "Trump made up injury to dodge Vietnam service"

Anti-Trump and pro-Palestine protestors jeer as military parade attendees leave the National Mall in DC tonight as the day's celebrations come to an end. #Army250

Britain just had its warmest spring ever (in recorded history) and the driest in over 50 years. Drought is surely coming. We need publicly owned water companies, more green energy, electric travel and to eat less meat. buff.ly/bfoSUks

has that dude had his little birthday boy tank man parade yet? it’s hard to tell because the only thing the news is showing right now is how much people around the country hate him

Here’s a look at Hortman’s legislative history and legacy on key policies during her 20 years in office.

More than 450 million Europeans. 29 countries. 1 shared freedom. In 2025, we mark 40 years since the Schengen Agreement was signed. This landmark event has reshaped how over 450 million Europeans live, work and travel.

Nope:

Despite warnings from the law enforcement not to attend today’s No Kings rally after this mornings shooting of Minnesota lawmakers with the killer on the lose, the No Kings Rally is happening at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

The day started with tragedy with political violence in MN and instead of being scared, neighbors SHOWED UP to stand together at No Kings Twin Cities. We packed the Capitol Mall all the way to the Cathedral. Estimate 80,000+ right now. So proud of our state. #nokings #indivisible

It’s not hyperbole to say that the deaths in Minnesota are on the GOP’s hands. They’ve built this political environment and they’ve allowed a demagogue to spread hate. This is entirely on them.

Thousands of peaceful protesters have lined the road for over 8 continuous miles just outside of Washington DC right now! They did not vote for a king and they are well aware that Trump is trying to cut off their health care benefits to give tax breaks to him and his billionaire donors friends.
