Earlier this evening, the Univision crew grabbed their gear and started running when federal police began shooting pepper balls at us. @lataco.bsky.social

“A 2010 study that analyzed 40 years of protest coverage in five major newspapers, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, found that the papers depicted protests — even peaceful ones — as nuisances rather than as necessary functions of democracy.”

Seems like most people on here are anti-evil. That's the kind of insular groupthink that loses elections :/

“As bungled and crude as the DOGE firings have been, the basic premise that a wealthy business owner has better judgment than a government employee has been baked into our cultural consciousness for a very long time,” writes @saraeckel.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/saraecke...

the two big camps in dem politics right now are "just have some values and fight for them" and [smugly] "values? what are you, five?"

I really appreciated this thoughtful review!

I wrote about @erikmbaker.bsky.social's terrific book, MAKE YOUR OWN JOB, and how it made me think about what work our society values, and what it does not.

People who don’t closely follow the news haven’t seen any impact from the tariffs yet—in other words, what we see today is the floor for people being radicalized, not the ceiling

The indivisible protest in New York is at least 5x larger than they planned. They originally cordoned off the sidewalk+bus lane on 5th but they've had to close the whole street, and it's not enough.

Kingston, NY #handsoff. Pouring rain, big crowd.

I wrote about my ongoing attempts to stay sane, and how I found leaders worth following.

TODAY: @leahgreenberg.bsky.social and @ezralevin.bsky.social invite you to their weekly discussion. Fascism in which the trains not only don’t run on time, but are suddenly canceled or just don’t show up or derail.

Among the more astonishing things about this clip is that the leader of the Democratic party is acting as if he no more power than a retiree in an Indivisible group. They keep scolding us to "do something" while they do nothing.

It's quite a feeling to have a representative who actually represents you. Assembly member @sarahana.bsky.social proposes a modest raise on New York State millionaire's taxes to fund human services, Medicaid, school aid, higher education, environment and other programs.

Feels like the main thing you should know about the Democratic Party is that three years ago they controlled a trifecta after Trump tried to launch a coup, and they dismissed everyone who said they should impose accountability and said “no, we know how to beat him at the polls: kitchen-table ads”

The terrible CR Budget bill — written by right-wing House Republicans with no input from anybody but themselves — was passed tonight with the support of 10 Democrats.   An absolute failure of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

When even Nancy Pelosi is saying Schumer fucked up, Schumer fucked up!

“What has the legacy of years of refusing to lose a vote taught the party ... about how to fight for something you are not guaranteed to win? Where is the muscle memory of how to go to the mat for principles, for ideas, for policy or material gain when a clean victory is not actually a possibility?”

If you can't get through to your senator through your home district or the DC line, try another district. I have often gotten through to Schumer and Gillibrand's staff by calling the Syracuse or Buffalo offices.

Key graphs from @rtraister.bsky.social on the real choice Senate Democrats face today. The choice is whether to be part of Team Fight or Team Capitulation. And what good Americans need from Democrats more than anything right now is more fight. substack.com/inbox/post/1...

Senate Democrats were offered nothing in exchange for voting for a GOP budget and decided it was a deal that was too good to pass up

List of Chuck Schumer book tour appearances

It's clear Chuck Schumer is not cut out to lead the senate Democrats. There needs to be a vote of no confidence and he needs to be replaced with someone willing to fight. Trump and Elon are dismantling democracy while Schumer whines and capitulates.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

the only way for evil to triumph in this world is for bad men to stand around doing bad and evil things.

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

This happened a week ago.

The same Dems/pundits who claim that any rando leftist who is rude online can derail the whole Dem platform also believe there's no problem with elected Dems doing a 180 from "Trump's a threat to democracy" to "let's work with him and his appalling nominees." Normies noticed it; they don't like it.
