1200 pounds is 66 bags of cat litter for us. I guess we’d need a truck.😸

I do have a reacher/grabber thingy! But I don’t use it as often as I should.
I may try installing a spare Ethernet hub this weekend. On top of the table, not underneath! 😄

My windows slide horizontally; the right half slides and the other half is fixed. Very common in California.

This is definitely how imaginary ceasefires work.

I had TikTok for a while but I got addicted to air conditioner repair videos and had to uninstall it.
Apparently this is what I enjoy the most… 🤷♀️

Did someone forget to remove this before flight? Or is it stored onboard somewhere?

If you can get a bull into the other guy’s china shop, the fact that he doesn’t take orders very well is a minor concern.

Of course it also helps that I had a HUGE amount of psychotherapy earlier in my life. 😆

Definitely! I prepare a bit, distract myself a bit, entertain myself a bit… yes, my world is kind of collapsing, apparently, but I can’t really fix it, and it doesn’t help anything to feel miserable.

The assumption that we all made that WW3 would be some kind of nuclear apocalypse may not be correct.
I think maybe it started in 2014, or even earlier, and is just weirder than we ever expected.
As always, r*ssia is the center of evil in the world.

I remember those days.
I remember thinking “Either Bush knows something I don’t, or this is a really bad idea.”

DSI? SPI? Or we could use e-ink! Hmm, we’ll need wifi too; if I try to crawl under the table to find the spare Ethernet port the cat will never settle down afterwards… 😼 Also I’m in entirely too much pain to be crawling around under tables today. Thanks, trash day two days ago. 🫠

I think what it’s implying is that if I tell it explicitly to look it up first, the retrieval layer will do that, and I might get better guesses! 🤭🤞

No, 200k is currently a pretty big context window! Much bigger than ChatGPT.
The 2 million token thing for ChatGPT isn’t actually context; it’s more like a database it can use to look stuff up. But it doesn’t always know when to do that, so sometimes it will just make stuff up without checking.

I think Claude has a context window of 200k tokens, or 500k for the enterprise edition.
Our codebase is 25 million tokens!
🤯
I’m still exploring the various possibilities.
ChatGPT can handle 2 million tokens worth of documents.

I've seen that move! Despite having subtitles, I couldn't entirely understand it.

I was hoping we could just feed it ALL the code we have at work… but after 30 years of coding it turns out we have about 10x the amount of code that anything can analyze right now. So I’ll try to find ways to shrink it and/or break it into parts.

And for those of us who generally do know how, it’s a huge time saver!
In fact it’s even better than that: I can now do things I couldn’t do before just because they would have been too time consuming. Now, dozens of little throwaway scripts every day is an entirely practical thing.

I’m hoping to bake today. Between computer upgrades, deadlines, illness, and cat cuddling and maintenance, there just hasn’t been time in the last month or so.

It’s also interesting that despite the fact that this ChatGPT project has access to the full source code for our internal libraries via Retrieval Augmented Generation, it doesn’t always think about looking at them. Sometimes it will just make things up instead.

Pair programming with ChatGPT is like pair programming with a hyperintelligent, hyperenthusiastic, extraterrestrial toddler who has been given a beer and an espresso. Sometimes extremely useful, sometimes hilarious, never any wisdom.
Can’t believe they let random people use and trust this stuff.

I don't really want to know if our systems handle just one name because I'm only a few years from retirement...
We do have one person in our database whose last name is actually Null.
I hope. 😐
