I was your friendly, neighbourhood rhetoric and game studies diva. Now I’m not sure what’s going on. I'm into critical pedagogy, rhetorical genre studies, open ed, and trusting my students.

So much agreement here. I really think rhetoric needs to be mandatory. One broad problem is that students often don’t know why what they are learning is important. Rhetorical balance requires context and critical inquiry. I’ve completely changed how I teach to centre on these skills.

I appreciate your opinion but we saw the inside of a studio more than anything of interest. And really weak representation of our culinary diversity, IMO (pancakes? Srsly?). What will it be next year? Destination Africa? That’s my hill, and I’m dying on it 😆

Holy shit. 💩 Tell me you do not understand AI without telling me you don’t understand AI (or that some palms are being greased). GenAI looks like thinking because it’s fast. It’s speedy autocomplete - that’s it. I’m….I’m so frustrated 😣

Had two trips to the U.S planned and tickets bought this year. Everything cancelled. I boycott as much American made stuff as I can. How long will this go on? Little known fact about Canadians: we hold record-breaking grudges.

For small associations like those in Canadian rhet/comp, we need these conferences for tenure and promotion and even to build an academic identity. Ours is hybrid and will likely have to go online, which is even better.

Apparently on hiatus for a year b/c their 2026 venue cancelled. On hiatus for one year but this might be it. A big blow for social sciences and humanities
