That’s DOCTOR Hayden to you, Taco Boy. youtu.be/kZNwN13gpXc

No country has ever increased freedom and liberty by banning books - www.bookbanpetition.us

The puzzle table at my HS library was always popular. Kids who might not normally engage with each other cooperated to connect pieces. Even those who were just walking by would linger a while to find a piece. It was a joy to watch.

Hey, P’Town, “The Librarians” is coming! “The Librarians” is coming! June 12 & 13. @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social. Info & tix: provincetownfilm.org/films/the-librarians

Love this description: “an army of gullible smooth-brains: remorseless, hateful fools who will agree to any amount of cruelty as long as it’s inflicted on people they see as lower than they are—usually brown people who speak a different language.” It’s the same gang that’s trying to ban books.

At long last: He says something truthful. IYKYK.

Trump is closing a major airport to accommodate a military parade for his birthday – the parade is estimated to cost as much as $45 million. This coming from the president who said little girls are fine with 2 dolls not 30. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Hey, Usha, here’s my reading log!

Bronzer McBonespurs Beaten Badly by Bumpmeister Bronaparte in round one. Are you going to take that lying down, Chicken TACO Caligula?

The blueprint. The Petri dish. The Guinea pig. Call it what you will, but Florida has been the testing ground for book banning since 2021. The removal of 55 books and the forced review of 500+ more in Hillsborough County schools is a sledgehammer that book banners will export across the country.

“Distort facts, intimidate, & inflict pain upon others.” If you boil the book banning playbook down to its essence, those are the fundamentals. This isn’t just a Louisiana story, if you’re like me, you’ll easily identify the parallels in your own community (lookin’ at you NJ Project & NJ Schools).

Way to go, CT! Another state joins NJ in standing up for the freedom to read.

Today in retirement: Made a button bouquet at the Tuckerton Library

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

My plea to parents is to take your children to libraries as much as your complicated parenting schedule can possibly allow. Help your children understand that this resource belongs to them and to the community, and that anyone attempting to take it away is stealing from them.

I love my detail-oriented senator Andy Kim! @kim.senate.gov

We were talking to @maggietokudahall.bsky.social and @heykellyjensen.bsky.social about book bans and they had not heard "Smut" by Tom Lehrer. This must be remedied: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaHD...

Harvey Milk served his country honorably — first in uniform, then in public office. Taking his name off this Navy ship sends a clear message, and it’s one of disrespect and cruelty.

PEN America sees Florida as a warning sign. I see it as the Petri dish in a mad science experiment to strip Americans of our intellectual freedom. The state experiment is now being replicated at the national level. Don’t just sit there. RESIST! See the action steps at the end of the article.

“Florida is a warning sign of what this country could become when we allow a false narrative about ‘parental rights’ to be used by the state to misrepresent the preferences of all parents. We should not let the Sunshine State become the blueprint for public education across the country.”

“FL standards implied that American students should not have to feel ‘distress’ when examining the … enslavement of African Americans. These changes minimized … the realities & legacy of enslavement … by suggesting the experience of being enslaved was to these individuals’ ‘personal benefit.’”

“The review process in Manatee [FL] allows principals … to handle most objections without having to publicly disclose the objection, read the book in full, or form a review committee with parents or educators. No committee means no parental input in the challenge process.”

“Across Florida, educators and principals … got the message that ‘err on the side of caution’ means to ‘err on the side of censorship’ and hoped their decisions concerning individual book titles wouldn’t result in a complaint that could end their careers.”

They’re talking about Vicki Baggett: “To bypass restrictions in HB 1285, this individual obtained power of attorney for some Santa Rosa residents, allowing her to submit objections on their behalf. [challenging] so many books en masse, even though she is not a local parent or resident.”

“The majority of parents that expect [students’] full access to school libraries can have their choices erased by a random objector. Florida parents are being subjected to a state law that prioritizes the removal of books before their informed review, & ignores their actual preferences altogether.”

“[W]hen given the opportunity to place library restrictions on their own students, the majority of parents overwhelmingly maintained full access instead.”

“Despite the rhetoric of their supporters, ‘parental rights’ – driven policies have subverted the majority of parents’ preferences, by making it easier for a single individual to chill classroom discussions and influence the availability of books for all.”

It’s only June, but the Jersey Shore is in full swing. Gorgeous day!

It’s a boardwalk slice kinda day!
