Oooh, you mean it's OK to leave, realise it's a mistake, then rejoin? 😉

A really clear and vital piece of analysis in Jeremy Bowen's long piece about the Gaza war, which is too often muddied by almost everyone. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Probably the most dangerous thing in politics is when a leader needs conflict - when he depends on conflict for his political power, maybe knows no other way to hold on to power.

I would argue that this chaos is what made the charts so much fun: trash cheek by jowl with treasure. Contrast the slow-moving homogeneity of the current Top 40. It's not that it was always good — it's that it was always interesting.

"Israel wanted us to see what Hamas had done. The conclusion has to be that it does not want foreign reporters to see what it is doing in Gaza."

And a ★★★★ review in The Mirror: "Funny, fierce and unwaveringly human." sathnam.com/events

I recently heard a high-profile pundit argue that the Trump movement cannot be Fascistic as -its supporters don't wear uniforms; -Trump dislikes foreign wars; -he hasn't tried to amend the Constitution. It's a dangerously complacent view, that misses the sheer gravity of the current situation. 🧵

This is excellent news.

So British DOGE's search for wasteful spending discovered that... councils need more money to update their IT systems? www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

He’s a Sikh, not a Muslim, you F moron. It’s “deeply disturbing” that someone as bigoted as you is a member of Congress.

Great to see @sathnam.bsky.social’s ‘Marriage Material’ burst 💥 into life @lyrichammersmith.bsky.social - thanks to fine adaptation, direction and cast, with bonus Q&A. Try to see it 🔜 or when it moves to Birmingham Rep. Drama and laughter guaranteed!

Tesla stock price is still insanely high given... sales are plummeting, it's the target of a global protest movement, its cars are shit, its drug-fuelled Nazi founder is at war with the US president. Lord give me the optimism of its investors.

This always was and always is the destination of relationships that are purely transactional: that are zero sum games. Real social capital - trust - binds relationships, even through conflict. Mutual back scratching is only skin deep: it moves quickly from back scratching to eye gouging.

It will turn out to have been designed by AI

Sources reporting that Zelensky has called Trump and offered to mediate a peaceful resolution between Musk and himself.

Night of the Long Tweets.

It's weird how so many British Asians who work for Nigel Farage end up hating him. Wonder what it could be about him. It's such a fucking mystery.

Somebody tell Grok, there is a white South African getting massacred

Taking bets on whether Musk will end up being a white man deported to South Africa

Musk right now...

Men are too emotional to use social media

Those White South African 'refugees' looking at E. Musk right now ...

"I think we have a bias as people coming from the tech industry where we worked at companies, you know, such as Google, Facebook, these companies that have plenty of money, are funded by investors and have lots of people kind of sitting around doing nothing." www.npr.org/2025/06/02/n...

very fun to read frederick douglass accurately describe the problem with the pardon power in 1867

Just writing a paper about this pair, Thomas Dawodu and Ferdinand Leigh, the first Africans to train at Kew Gardens. Big fan of this definition of "white British" that excludes the King

Thankyou ❤️

My novel *Rabbits* is out today in paperback. On the EXTREMELY RARE and ENTIRELY BAFFLING chance you haven't bought it already, I reckon you definitely should now. Right? Here are some of the lovely things other readers have said about it over the last year...

Cunning of Trump. By pushing for an intolerably high 5% of GDP commitment from Nato allies, he: 1) Sets the scene for the USA to flounce out of the alliance when the commitment isn't met 2) Destabilises competitor economies by imposing a massive drain on them 3) Creates political chaos everywhere

Trump's assault on universities is sinking global interest in American degrees • Weekly internet page views of US university courses halved between January 5th and end of April • Traffic on webpages of US courses stands well below levels registered during covid-19 pandemic

What an extraordinary, beautiful thing. Sometimes the only sensible response to scientific discovery is wonderment and awe.

Bill Bryson's Notes on a Small Island perfectly capture's pre-GPS life in the UK

Winston Churchill would fail this definition of “white British”

Wallet inspector's failure to return with wallet raises doubts about his sincerity

This thread is so depressing

Rowan Williams reviews Peter Watson. 'Sanghera’s discussion of the imperial legacy is characterised as “extreme” and then praised later (rightly, I think) as “a good example of the way forward” in maintaining... awareness of the... moral tangles of imperial history.' www.ft.com/content/322e...

Incredibly, it still remains the main outlet for British politicians. They seem to have no idea that they're sowing the seeds of their own demise.

Absolutely hilarious to discover that I - born and spent 43 years in the UK, Cambridge, civil service, spent the weekend watching cricket - am not considered white British by these maniacs.
