Everything he says about deportation camps on military bases is spot on—and alarming. But don’t get thrown off by the name Blackwater. It’s still out there—rebranded. Blackwater became Xe in 2009, then Academi in 2011, before merging into Constellis in 2014. The name changed but the op lives on. 🧵

The point of the Guantanamo camp was never that some immigrants were too dangerous to remain stateside. It was to *give the impression* that such dangerous immigrants existed and had been detained — which is exactly how Guantanamo was used after 2001.

We are just about at the point where a court orders the government do something & the government refuses to do it, which is practically what this amounts to. Either the courts find an effective mechanism to force compliance, or Trump steamrolls right over them.
