I support rent caps based on property tax rate. You can pay 1976 tax rates on your house if you're gonna rent it out for 1976 prices

Commendable for those few privates who don't but unfair to compare them to public unis which of course shouldn't favor legacies, because they're getting that subsidizing cash from taxpayers.
This is why public universities are morally superior btw

Also, as an ethics reviewer I have found that ~100% of the ethics reviews I've been assigned is just an obvious "no issues" to someone who flagged for some insipid reason

Bright side: it has gotten so long and cumbersome that almost nobody cares if you actually do it right. I do not scrutinize the checklist on papers I review very closely and I certainly don't waste my time making sure it was correctly filled out by cross-referencing the paper

I guess it's a function of the people. AI hubs, simple as? It's still interesting to me that these ideas, moreso than immediately demonstrable ones, are so socially transmitted. I think the continuing rise of respect for MI in the community at large is changing things

Mic drop from @tallinzen.bsky.social: "Itβs sometimes confusing when we pretend that thereβs a scientific conversation happening, but some of the people in the conversation have a stake in a company thatβs potentially worth $50 billion."

I wonder if the negative unit economics for purposeless use might resist this, what with the "thank you" problem and all
but nowadays I guess you should never bet against shit getting worse
