Thank you! That's definitely part of why I wrote it - wanting to read more older neurodiverse characters, and I'm so glad Jurao has resonated with so many people 💜

Of course I got the hashtag wrong. So here we go again In 1919, a lonely amateur archeologist losing his humanity turns to the occult to slow his withering - making things much, much worse. #hotwetqueersummer #hotwetpitch #r #wip

Also sent a message to Books2Read (by Draft2Digital) asking them to add Itchio as a link option for their UBLs, so if you use B2R (and you don't need to use D2D, btw!) and list your books on itchio, let them know you'd like the link option as well to keep your UBL up to date!

Let's see... -Regency-inspired romantasy, marriage of convenience with a bestial grand duke LI and a transman MC -novella series of two aroace autistic men in the 40s falling in love for the first time with each other -single author anthology of mostly monsterxhuman queer romances, largely transmasc

I think the second question (about using the Homosaurus Vocabulary) is either missing options or not formatted as a fill in the blank? It only lists "option 1" as a selection for me

So I ask again: if you enjoyed a story, found no glaring flaws in grammar or syntax, found the characters well-rounded and likable, found the plot to be coherent and logical, with world building that was interesting... ... why is the marker for it being poorly written, "it reminded me of fanfic?"

Fanfic gave us Fifty Shades of Gray. Fanfic gave us Gideon the Ninth. Fanfic is not singularly "good" or "bad" writing; it is just writing. My work isn't the only one I've seen where people make apologies for it reading "like fanfic," or derided for "being fanfic," so this isn't just about me.

This leads to terrible, incoherent messes. This leads to masterworks of prose and playing with form. It's a rare space of play for writers that takes off the pressure to conform to typical literary conventions, which often allows for artistic growth through experimentation.

Fanfic can give you a creative freedom you won't find in the trad pub field - or even self-publishing. It's a space where experimentation is the norm, and no one is really worried about marketability or, yes, how "good" something is, so long as everyone is having fun.

Yes, there is a lot of poorly written fanfic out there. There's also plenty of poorly written professionally published work. In equal measure, there's plenty of gorgeously written and executed fanfic that people will hold head and shoulders above any trad-pubbed work they've ever read.

But I do just wonder, at this point, why there is still such a prevalence of people who will say how much they enjoyed reading something - and then immediately say "but it reminded me of fanfic, so it was badly written." Or "even though it's written like fanfic, it's good." Why the apology?

Yes, I have gotten several comments saying my original work reminds people of fanfiction. I cut my teeth writing fanfiction, I'm not ashamed of it. In fact, I was pretty popular in specific fandoms, and I'm proud of the work I did and how it helped me grow as an author.
