Yeah, the video compositor in Blender is excellent for basic editing; I use it all the time.

I left Adobe 9 years ago and haven't looked back.
Clip Studio Paint or Krita for drawing & painting.
Affinity Designer for vector art.
Affinity Photo for advanced photo editing.
DaVinci Resolve for advanced video editing.
There are alternatives.

I'm not sure what your software choice is, but if you're looking for a recommendation I use clip studio paint. I switched over after Adobe started their subscription model and I haven't looked back.
