Being critical of AI doesn't make someone ableist. That is a really shitty take. That the same type of thinking that made ineffective accessibility overlays so prevalent outside of the original creator intended usage

📣 There are still early bird tickets available for my upcoming online workshop combining modern #CSS with JS accessibly, in partnership with Smashing: smashingconf.com/online-works... 🍎 Or if you happen to be going to Smashing NYC, I'll also be running it in person: smashingconf.com/ny-2025/work...

Happy European Accessibility Act Day to all that celebrate 🥳

Gonna vibe code this existence into a gray goo ending

I don't have a college degree so freelancing gave me the opportunity to break into the tech industry. I definitely champion hiring freelancers when possible (and paying them fairly).

Me discussing digital accessibility at happy hour

No thoughts, just unsettling vibes

Once you make guacamole in a molcajete there is no turning back.

The true technology event horizon is when Chat GPT gets integrated into Real Dolls

I feel like I am doing too much while also not doing enough. It's a case of Schrödinger's doing

Unless we start requiring housing to be built with passive cooling, air conditioning is going to become a necessity for many regions from the effects of climate change increases. People act like something that starts as a luxury can't become a necessity. The same thing applies with the Internet.

Andrew Cuomo meeting with his campaign staff as the results start coming in:

I watched both the HBO and Netflix documentaries on the Oceangate sub implosion this week. If you only watch one, it should be the HBO doc. It was less sensational and had interviews with members of the U.S. Coast Guard investigation board

I don't think using neural interfaces for accessibility will remotely be a viable option with the present and immediate future of technology and medicine. Maybe in 30-50 years if humanity gets its shit together. Currently med tech companies will just end support, fold and leave users SOL.

The good news is that Denver is exempt from the high temperature affecting most of the country. The bad news is that probably means a bunch of people are about to have their roof and cars fucked up due to hail storms.

Hey, you! Stop doom-scrolling for a few minutes. Go listen to some music, grab a snack or scream real loud in the bathroom - anything else to give your brain a momentary reprieve from the onslaught of news and information.

Seeing some companies and orgs still asking if they need to comply with the European Accessibility Act (EAA) that comes into effect on June 28th.

Sitting in the middle of Casa Bonita staring at my phone trying to see if my cat is okay on pet cam (It's the first time I've left her alone) Also those who have gone to Casa Bonita before the South Park guys bought it. It's pretty much just cleaner with better food and limited South Park branding

Some wisdom from China, IL

The U.S. heads back into war and politicians currently in office make posts about how this is unconstitutional in all caps.

The city built an outdoor stage outside my building and on the weekends they have live music. I enjoy it but the artist performing right now has turned Alicia Keys' If I Ain’t Got You into a 15 minute musical epic. I like the song but if they don't have them by now it's better to let them go.

A few thoughts: 1. Given that much current the data out there that gen AI trains off of is incomplete or just incorrect when it comes to disability it's not the ultimate solution for providing digital accessibility. 3. We have to start specifying what area we mean when we discuss Ai 1/x

I wrote this article a year ago yesterday. As many places around the U.S. experience their first heat wave of the year, here are some of my thoughts about extreme weather, climate change and disability

This is definitely a good point. AI is a catch-all term and there are many subsets. Most likely when people discuss negative effects of AI they're talking about generative models but discriminative models many times get conflated though people use them everyday (ex: spam filters, etc) without issue.

I really hope my bedroom walls have good sound proofing otherwise my next door neighbor just endured 30 minutes of my imitation of Ann-Margaret singing Bye Bye Birdy while playing with Dominique.

Think I can safely do the Year in Accessibility 2025 before the end of the year by resharing this.

Happy Juneteenth everyone. We used to be a country. A proper country. A country that had Great Value red velvet and cheesecake Juneteenth ice cream.

I admit I use AI to help me with grammar/spelling because it's been integrated in Grammarly. I looked into it for research/summarizing information I spent more time fact checking what it gave me than if I had just done it organically. Its frequency to hallucinate is too high.

Look at the bright side if you are someone serious about authenticity in historical replicas, you'll now be truly able to build an authentic Victorian home 😐

I would be a liar if I said I didn't use AI at all One use is whatever AI solution Grammarly has incorporated because my grammar and spelling is horrible (Hyperlexia), the other is Be My Eyes. Here is when I used it to clean up my kitchen due to a leak last week.

All my meetings are now me moving a cat's ass from my face or the camera every 30 seconds then apologizing.

Everyday we get closer to me making this reality. My new daughter (cat) needs a Celine collar.

Applying ARIA half-ass isn't A11y. This is for coalition members. Need word to spread.

If this is truly the collapse of the American empire, then what cookbook would you consider (or want) to be America's Apicius?

I got tagged in the microblogging trend, so here it is! In this post, I talk about 10+ years in tech, the intense global recognition I experienced, burnout recovery, neurodivergence, and how people in tech have the power to shift this landscape to do actual good. annaecook.com/writing/tag-...

The best way to consume journalism and news nowadays is on an individual basis rather than implicit trust in whole outlets, especially when you're talking about large regional/national. Looking at track records of a writer's history of reporting and coverage of events. 1/2
